Handel and Helen at GOP State Convention
Helen Block Adams (HBA) sits down with Georgia Secretary of State and Candidate for Governor Karen Handel at high noon on Friday. I bet HBA will have all the candidates for governor before the end of the year.
In my opinion, a party that seems stagnate could use some fresh blood with a woman perspective for governor and/or congress (stay tune for something big…hopefully.) You have the Nathan Deal crew, the Eric Johnson crew, the Ox crew, and the Austin Scott youth crew before you get to the drama on the Democratic side. We will see. The GOP should learn that you get more people with honey than cutting them down and the Dems need to learn that our community won’t always be marshalled around.

I had the opportunity to hear her speak at the Columbia County Republican Women’s Club tonight. It was a packed room and she gave a concise message that addressed the budget, transportation, education and water issues. She responded to every question (which took longer than her speech) with ease and confidence. She seemed no nonsense. I’m looking forward to having her join me live in the studio on 1230 AM on Friday at high noon. And Ted is right, I’m on a mission to have each of them on my radio program over the coming months. I’ve personally met each of them. So watch out gubernatorial candidates. Here I come.
May I just say that I am impressed that Handel went to Frederick Douglas High in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Really, that is saying something because that area is like Atlanta North—the place to be for the up and coming Black middle class in the DC area.
If she went to high school there she likely has a comfort level around a diverse group of people that could be more beneficial than standing around on a manicured lawn in Athens or North Avenue with a red cup..chilling with the Tri-Deltas or KDs and figure out who will marry a KA. Wow, could she actually have more cred than me. Get the popcorn because this thing is going to be Bo Ginn v. Joe Frank Harris interesting.
I still remember Ginn standing on the wing of that plane in his ad while talking about bring international business to Georgia but folks connected with Harris’s country nature. Do like Jim Marshall and play down the fact you went to Princeton while the future first lady gets slammed for attending the same school.
