Secretary of Agriculture Sanford Bishop?
Word is that Georgia Congressman Sanford Bishop is being vetted for Agriculture Secretary. That move would be great because agriculture is Georgia’s leading industry and Bishop would do a fine job.
I was concerned that the Obama’s cabinet did not included people from the South. Would Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue appoint a replacement or would a special election be held.
Let’s make this happen.
Cliff Porter, interim vice president for institutional advancement at Albany State University would be the natural choice—former Bishop staffer, law degree, Chamber of Commerce experience.
People just like the guy.
With all of the economic turmoil in the U. S, a candidate for U. S Congress should be well versed in the economic issues not only in the Albany community, but facing Georgia and the United States. Darton College Economist Aaron Johnson would be an ideal choice. Mr. Aaron Johnson has represented the Southwest Georgia community through this crisis in his frequent appearances in the community and on the local news. His passion for the community is evident through his service and I believe he would represent our community well in Congress.

Famulaw08: thanks for bring Aaron Johnson to the attention of this blog and the community regarding the possible next 2nd District M.O.C.
I personally think the list of possible candidates is as long as your arm. Cliff Porter, Kenneth Cutts and Steve Belk come to mind as well as former Sec of State Cathy Cox, Dougherty County Commission Chair Jeff “Bodine” Sinyard and former State Senator Michael Meyer von Bremen.
And that is before you get into the Columbus list: Mayor Pro Tem Evelyn Turner Pugh would be a strong, strong congresswoman and she has the corporate background.
As an intro to Aaron Johnson, I linked his Darton College page below. (D.C. is one of my colleges). The link includes a detail video; bright guy but my concern is that he just came to Georgia in 2007—in southwest Georgia, we can grow crops and congressmen.

Also, State Rep. Winfred Dukes of Albany has been getting much buzz.
This is out of left-field, but Charlie Ward, Jr. of Thomasville would be interesting: Christian, Heisman Trophy winner with his own money; pro-life and his father is loved to this day in GOP-heavy Thomasville. This idea might sound funny but Ward beat Heath Shuler for the 1993 Heisman and where is Shuler today—pro-life, pro-gun Democrat member of congress.
