The Chambliss-Martin runoff results won’t be a indictment of the Obama administration because our community is not crazy about Martin and does not have deep distain for Senator Chambliss. My political friends and I remain puzzled by the GOP’s lack of connections with moderate Black Georgia.
The situation will be different when Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson runs for reelect because he has cultivated strong personal connections with the African American community for decades. Team Isakson should be studying the current senate race and taking copious notes to keep viable Democrats from entering the 2010 race. He should follow the examples of Obama and the Blue Dog Democrats by building personal relationships with the opposite party members and leaders because people who met Isakson really find him a likeable guy.
Isakson should add a moderate Dem or two to his field staff to quell the “Us v. Them” mentality of the past—which is easy because casework and field staffing is largely non-partisan.
A good African American field staff in rural Georgia would be better than a million T.V. ads–they need to call me. (blatant self promotion)
Isakson reportedly is not keen on running again, dislikes Washington – from what I have heard.
I say we raise some Cain again.
WE HAVE MORE TO DO:
Democrat Jim Martin is in a runoff against Bush Republican Saxby Chambliss for the Senate seat from Georgia. Bush’s Saxby Chambliss voted against spending a few measly dollars to provide health care coverage for Georgia, and Americas needy children. But he supported wasting hundreds of billions of your dollars, and the life BLOOD of Americas finest on an unnecessary war in Iraq.
At a time when 47 million of you have no health insurance coverage, and over 100 million of you with insurance are just one major illness away from complete financial destruction. Bush and Saxby Chambliss voted to make the heart break of bankruptcy relief even harder for all of you to use.
You see, Bush and Saxby Chambliss, and his family don’t have to worry about their health care coverage. They have the finest health care coverage your tax money can buy for them. Courtesy of you. The American Tax payer. In fact, no one but the super rich can afford the health care coverage you the tax payer provide for Saxby Chambliss, and his family for FREE! with your tax dollars.
He supposedly works for you. But he doesn’t think you and your family should have access to the type of taxpayer supported FREE health care that you provide for him, and his loved ones for FREE!. Doesn’t that just make you BURRING MAD!
Vote for JIM MARTIN for US senator from Georgia. Vote for JIM Martin who will be on your side. Vote for JIM MARTIN who will work with President Obama and a majority congress for you. Vote for JIM MARTIN most of all for your-self, your family’s, friends, and loved ones. Vote for JIM MARTIN for a better America, and a better World.
Don’t let Saxby Chambliss make a chump out of you by tricking you into voting against your own best interest. Saxby chambliss is NOT! on your side. He’s not one of you. He is on George Bush’s side. And we all know what a catastrophe the Bush Chambliss administration has been the past 8 years.
Contact all your family and friends and do every thing you can to see to it that JIM MARTIN and GEORGIANS! take that senate seat back for Georgia, and America. No matter where you live in America. This is important to you. President Obama will need all the help, and power you can give him to try and fix this catastrophic mess that the Corrupt Bush Chambliss administration has created.
As I said before you will have to vote in overwhelming numbers to overcome the Bush Chambliss “Let Them Eat Cake” vote fraud machine. Vote early if you can. Then help everyone you can get to the polls and vote for JIM MARTIN. You and your loved ones don’t have to be Saxby Chambliss’s victims anymore.
I know you will get it done. Just like you did for President Obama.
God bless all of you
jacksmith – WORKING CLASS… 🙂
How many Republicans have to lose their seats in Georgia for them to see the need to diversify, to expand their net, to open their arms, or to build and cultivate relationships with a diverse group of people that include African-Americans, Asians, Hispanics, and political parties?
Do you have any idea of the impact on Georgia’s economy by loosing Saxby?
He’s our voice on the AG Committee in the Senate, a position Martin can not fill. Not to mention Jim Martin’s horrible State Legislature voting record. Let’s also forget how he treated Vernon Jones and Obama in the primary. Let’s also forget the man can not even define the middle class. He’s going to work for me just about as soon as I can fly, and folks I’m not in a hurry to grow any wings.
Ron: you are right about the impact of Saxby to our state. Herman Cain is enjoying the media empire life so getting him to run again is likely out. But, if he had it in the back of his mind, he should do what HBA is saying about relationships with non-traditional GOP groups.
jacksmith: I hear you but I am in south Georgia and I don’t want two Atlanta senators for our state.
I just read this on AJC. Like AJC, I am relaxing with famiyl this weekend but I am starting to think that Senator Isakson next election really starts next month; it’s time to let the people get to know him before the Dem Team puts up a good candidate for a long battle. The key to me is breaking the state down into area and knowing where Isakson can make strong connections with staff. It’s a big state but not all Blacks think the same.
From AJC:
Looking ahead, Public Policy Polling of North Carolina says U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson may have some shoring up to do before he runs for re-election in 2010.
The survey firm found:
…a high level of ambivalence toward first term Senator Johnny Isakson from Georgia voters. Only 30% of voters approve of his job performance but there isn’t a large mass that disapproves either- a plurality have no opinion of him one way or the other.
Isakson has not done much to appeal across party lines during his first term. His approval among Democrats is just 8%. The problems with the economy may be hurting his appeal as well. Among voters who name it as their top issue just 27% approve of him with 29% disapproving.
The firm conducted two hypothetical match-ups with two Democrats: Isakson (45 percent) vs. state Attorney General Thurbert Baker (39 percent); and Isakson (47 percent) vs. U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall of Macon (38 percent).
Stats are from the same PPP survey that showed, earlier this week, a widening of Saxby Chambliss’ lead in the U.S. Senate runoff.
Says PPP:
The question of course is whether Democrats will strongly contest the seat. They don’t have the deepest bench in Georgia, but Jim Martin’s success has shown that even a relative obscure candidate can compete in the state under the right circumstances.
Isakson is not a good representitive of working class people. He has supported evey trade liberalazation bill that came before him. With 50% of US consummer consummer spending being on imports whe have a broken system. His friends at the multinational companies advocate more free trade. Working Americans lose jobs and earning power. Selling more houses will not fix our economy as Johnny suggests.
We need a better representitive than Johnny for the 75% of our population that competes in the labor market for the same dollars they spend.
Burl: I repect your opinion but we live in a red state and relative to other members of the GOP Isakson is the man.
Of course, if a big percentage of this labor class would actually vote, you could have your kind of guy.
After eveything Clinton/Gore and congressional Dems did not working folks, President Bush won his election because the people we helped would not vote.
To the victor, the soils.
