Vernon Jones and Hypocrisy
I voted for Vernon Jones because I felt that Jones v. Saxby was a win-win situation for rural Georgia. Jones established his centrist legislative record, knowledge of agriculture and rural development and strong executive experience. To me, DeKalb County is as complex a government as Alaska and just about as cold.
So, Vernon gets tossed under the bus by the “powers that be” in the Democratic Party for supporting President Bush in the past. But, the same powers say nothing about Macon Congressman Jim Marshall embracing Bush policies time and time again.
Hypocrisy?
Vernon Jones, please tell your supporters your thoughts on these matters and if you are personally supporting Chambliss or Martin at this point.

I too, voted for Vernon Jones, and I would vote for him again. He should have won that race. But only God knows what it’s store for him in the future. Whether he was pushed under the bus by the Democrats remains to be seen, but I believe when and if he does come out to run again, he will be blazing. And besides, I couldn’t imagine voting in the General Election for the person who received more votes than Vernon. Just because he’s a Democrat? This is the mindset we’re trying to convey in this blog. Vote for the person and not the party. And besides, think about it. Vernon and his opponent were not the SAME kind of Democrat. Vernon is a conservative. His philosophy, I believe, fits with the larger segment of the voting population in the state of Georgia. His opponent in the Primary was/is as far left as the equator. Slight exaggeration, but I think you get what I mean!!
I listened to Jones when he came to Southwestern, he had some good ideas. I can’t say that I voted for him, apparently you can’t double dip and vote for both parties. He seemed like a good guy overall, and a true moderate who was more interested in policy outcomes rather than pleasing a particular group.
Having said that, several of us in this PolSci department have a theory that Jim Martin is really Eugene Talmadge’s illegitimate son. They look very much the same. He just needs to start talking about hogs and find a pair of red suspenders.
Ronald, I can see that from around the time of the three governors mess. It is a shame in America that we ask “does he/she look senatorial;” –like asking if you would follow a guy into battle as your C.O.
As a moderate Obama supporter, my beef with Jim Martin is that he voted for Edwards (as Jones constantly pointed out) rather than Obama. To be honest, White males are valued by the Democrat ticket and I know that, but Edwards is actually farther left than Obama. So, Edwards comes to Macon and Jim Marshall says glowing things about him but he rarely mentions our party’s presidential nominee. Not cool.
