While Stacey Dash and Ben Carson get much T.V. time, a young man name Jeffery Almonte should be the voice of what’s next for conservatives, moderates, centrists or whatever. Hillary or Bloomberg should literally knock on this guy’s Harlem door this week.

Readers of projectlogicga.com blog know that the Best Interest Initiative is my vision of fixing my community by considering what we can do for self rather than looking to the government….JFK…ask not what this country can do for you.

One of the BII blog post centered on the effect the hip hop culture is having on our community. I wrote that hip hop was worse than the Klan today because the substantive music of my youth has become a tool to glorify and glamorize pimps, thugs and crime.  Our community is being directed and led by the worst element.. the most ignorant.

Almonte’s recent video on the matter makes some of the same points in a better way.  This young man lives in the NYC but if he headed down South and into the Midwest, he would learn that his views are shared by a silent majority that crosses racial and political lines.

The Tea Party Movement has hijacked the GOP and that’s why their top two candidates are experts at dividing the nation.  On the Dem side, Bernie Sanders is a freaking socialist; he means well but capitalism drives America.  The last thing my community needs is a leader talking about giving us this and that for nothing.  I will give you something very helpful: read the blog post on the Best Interest Initiative and improve your life yourself.  Mark my word, Jeffery Almonte is going to be famous soon.

Donald Trump is good theater; he’s much fun.  The guy says what’s on his mind and that’s refreshing to some.  However, governing in the nuclear age requires more than P.T. Barnum.  It requires the tact and diplomacy of Kennedy, Lincoln, anybody named Roosevelt and nobody named Trump.  Yes, even bullish Teddy walked softly and carried a big stick.  Donald Trump is good for reality television; Trump in the White House would be a nightmare.

Trump is forcing me into the waiting arms of Bush, Kasich and Rubio.  As a moderate/centrist Democrat, one would think that I would prefer the worst GOP candidate to be the nominee because that person would be an easier opponent for Hillary.  But, this isn’t a Saturday Night Live skit.  This is real life and the issues on the table are far too important.  An organized Democrat Party would declare Hillary our nom and urge primary voters to help secure the GOP nomination for Trump by switching.  Hell naw!

If voting for Bush, Kasich or Rubio in the GOP primary helps one of them actually win the White House over Hillary, I will take that over a possible President Trump.  Anyway, Hillary only loses next November if the coalition Obama created doesn’t come back out to vote and if that happens the Democrats get what we deserve….helping working people who can’t find the time to vote….ask Al Gore about that.

Finally, the Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot by flirting with three candidates that never held elected office.  Reagan couldn’t be a member of the current GOP.  Democrats must seize the opportunity created by the GOP being pulled too far to the Right.  Hillary can win but Democrats need to vote down ballot also—from Congress to dog catcher.  Decent Republicans shouldn’t stand idly by when crazy stuff is being said.  Thank you Governors Kasich and Bush for being reasonable American leaders… your poll numbers reflect how crazy things have become since Fox News and the Tea Party commandeered your party.

strategery1

Strategery is a comical word said by Will Ferrell on Saturday Night Live while playing candidate George Bush.  Voting with a strategy is no laughing matter for Blacks in the South.

As we know, most Black southerners who vote favor the Democrat Party however, I stay ticked off by the fact that many Blacks simply don’t vote.  Oh, hard working, church attending, clean nosed African Americans vote as part of our civic duty and to help form a more perfect union.  But, a shocking percentage of Blacks who live in part on public assistance can’t be troubled to go vote.  But, the same folks pay 8 bucks every Friday night to profile at the high school football game…in the cold….for hours.   Really?

If those folks voted, the Republicans wouldn’t run most of politics in the South outside the largest cities.  Strategery would dictate that Blacks Who Actually Vote (BWAV) come up with a fallback plan because begging cats to vote isn’t working.  The purpose of voting is to select elected leaders who best reflect your views and opinions.  So logically, if the Democrats aren’t even fielding candidates in most contests, we must select from the Republicans…I won’t say “the lesser of evils” because most of them aren’t actually evil and I have yet to see any horns.

Georgia has a special election in December in State Senate District 20 and Mrs. Vivian Childs is a candidate.  You won’t meet nicer people than Mrs. Childs and her retired colonel husband Henry.  They are deeply involved in the Houston County/Middle Georgia community and raised outstanding children.

Let’s talk about trump but not about presidential candidate Donald Trump. I mean the fact that candidate Childs’ membership in a prominent African American sorority “trumps” the fact that she is a Republican.  Yes, DST trumps GOP with me because we are cut from the same cloth and have a shared cultural history.  This blog often points out many southern Blacks are conservative in actuality because we think success comes from personal actions rather than governmental involvement.  Yes, the government should protect basic civil rights but the safety net has created a softness with citizens of all colors.

Of course, the far Right trips so hard that they have ensure that Blacks aren’t comfortable joining the GOP until the traditional conservatives retake the ship….that won’t happen soon.  But, putting a reasonable, positive person like Vivian Childs in the state senate would be a step in the right direction.  Mrs. Childs’ career always involved helping people through education or ministry.  District 20 Democrat voters should vote for one of the GOP candidates in this non-partisan election and Mrs. Childs is a wise move.

Donald Trump got rich in business by using leverage and the Black community has little leverage in state government these days because we are overwhelmingly with the losing team.

What the heck is the Black presidential plan relative to Donald Trump in the South?  Hillary is the Dem nominee and that reality frees us up for strategery in the GOP primary.  First, the Republicans hate it when Democrats vote in the GOP primary so I like that…let their heads explode but I want to vote where the action is.

We could vote for Donald Trump or Dr. Ben Carson because Hillary would have an easier time whupping them next November.  But, what if they actually won?!  As we say on my block, “don’t even play like that.”  The GOP nom needs to be a serious leader with a proven history of governing…a big state governor.  While Chris Christie is a “big” state governor who can lead, I mean a governor from a “big state” like Florida or Texas.  With Rick Perry gone, Jeb Bush is the guy and Ohio Governor John Kasich should be his running mate.

Bottomline, Black folks need to get behind Vivian Childs, Jeb Bush and John Kasich because the stakes are too high to let the GOP voters decide alone.

Turning-Blue-Red-Map

To be frank, Democrats in Dixie carry little weight for either major party.  The Republicans know Democrats aren’t for them.  National liberal Democrats tolerate moderate southern Dems unenthusiastically.

In a presidential general election, the Democrats concede the South and save their ammo for the so-called battleground states.  Dems also put up little fight in southern governors, U.S. Senators, and state legislatures contests.  However, the D.N.C. will hit up southern cities like Atlanta for fancy fundraising.

Nutshell:

Republicans win White House = Dam those rural Dems

Democrats win White House = rural hick Dems didn’t help worth a dam

Not so fast: Southern rural Democrats who are moderate to conservative can support Hillary Clinton in the primaries.  Real city liberals on the two coasts (wine-sipping, tofu-eating, NPR listening) are feeling that Bernie Sanders socialism rhetoric.  Black southern moderates know “give me, give me, give me” is the last thing Blacks in the struggle need to hear at this pivotal time.  Deep inside, President Obama was a “lift yourself up” moderate raised by corn-fed Midwesterners.  The Clintons were Democrat Leadership Council moderates before getting “citified.”

Moderate Democrats should spend the next few months standing up for the center and convincing young Southerners that Sanders playing Santa Claus isn’t the move.

Political flirting is a very bad thing for our community.  Flirting in general isn’t cool because by nature it implies certain possibilities to elicit a certain response.  We are in the middle of a pivotal presidential campaign and Americans are flirting with feel good candidates.

It’s just like the girl in high school who flirted with the guy who said all of the right stuff but that guy wasn’t “till death do we part” husband material.  With the first primaries and caucuses quickly approaching, we need to focus on serious candidates who can enter the Oval Office and lead the free world.

Bernie Sanders seems like a smart and considerate guy.  His ideas and facts on wealth and income add substance to the debate.  However, he is an advocate or activist like Jesse Jackson and Ralph Nader.  Activist point out problems while leaders solved them.   Our community can’t let Sanders get into our system…it’s all about systems.  Sanders knows the economic system is tilted toward the rich but wealth redistribution gives our community more dreams of getting something for nothing.  Rich people design the system to benefit themselves but they did put in the work…most of the time.

The criminal justice/penal system seems like modern slavery to me but again did you commit a crime.  If you know the system is jacked up, you should avoid it.  The educational system clearly needs improvement but can your family and you honestly say that your best effort was or is being made.  Sanders and the real liberals have people feeling like victims.  Yes, you are a victim of the person in the mirror.  If the local school system is so horrible, why were so many focus kids able to learn there?

Sanders is a self-confessed socialist and to me that means he is half a step from being a communist.  What the hell?  The Democrat nominee will have to explain to the nation in the general election why her party seriously considered a socialist.

Let me talk “cash s” to my people for a second.  America has a capitalist system and a democracy.  For most of our nation’s history, people of color didn’t have a fair chance to participate in this system.  We built America for free before 1865 and for nearly free for 100 years after that.  When capitalism works properly, you get up in the morning and legally grind for your family while keeping liabilities balanced relative to income.  Young people shouldn’t jump up and have babies with the idea that the government or grandparents will provide for them—grannie stepping in financially for the sperm donor.

Friends familiar with Europe keep telling me that Sanders’ version of socialism is similar to our allies in Western Europe who pay like 25% in taxes but the government pays for health care, college etc.  I have a bad feeling about bring that crap over here…wait a second, we are half way there.

Here is a system for you: a kid listens to his or her parents and focuses in school.  After high school, the young person slowly learns a career from formal training or on the job.  A family is started with a person he knows well—a person who also is executing clearly defined goals and objectives.  This family has and raises children without stepping foot into the public assistance system because focus people don’t need the government telling them to care for their kids.

Senator Sanders will blow your mind with the stats on his videos; he is keeping Secretary Clinton on her toes.  We can take elements of his plans into consideration but plans on paper don’t always turn out well in reality.  Sanders could pull enough “want something for nothing” voters to steal the Democrat nomination.  If that happens, I can’t vote for him.  Dems can flirt with Sanders for a second but take Hillary down the aisle. Remember, Hillary might pull 20% of the women who voted for Romney.

Finally, Sanders’ views on the minimum wage have young voters dreaming of getting fatter checks.  These young people could struggle less if they put less on their plates.  The recent CNN video of the struggling young lady who works at McDonalds broke my heart.  However, who made her have a kid with that heading to jail guy before they established a constant income.  The government can’t save you from you—avoid their systems.

My political predictions for the near future are simple and clear:

Joe Biden: I don’t know if Vice President Biden will run for president but Hillary Clinton needs him to run—hear me out.  Junior Senator Barrack Obama got into a serious fight for the nomination with Clinton.  The battle sharpen the skills of both candidates.  Many voters felt that young Obama wasn’t ready to be leader of the free world; he had not put in the required time on the national stage.  But, the primary battle proved his steel.

Joe Biden could be to Clinton want Clinton was to Obama.  Yes, she is ready and experienced enough to be president but she needs a seasoned sparring partner.

Jeb Bush: The Republicans need to stop playing—stop it, I say…now.  Let me make one thing perfectly clear…read my lips….Jeb Bush is the only Republican with a real chance of defeating Hillary Clinton in the general election.  If you notice, Bush has an “I don’t need this crap” air about him.  He is the grown person in the room and to flirt with Trump and the others leading in the polls today is insulting to a leader of his caliber.

A Jeb Bush/John Kasich ticket is the best case scenario because the former House Budget Committee chair is the governor of swing state Ohio and both men intelligently tell far Right conservatives when their fervor is too much.  Maybe Bush isn’t suited to be the nom from a party increasing dominated by folks who dig Trump-like rhetoric.

Hillary Clinton: The biggest obstacle to Hillary Clinton winning the White House isn’t the Republicans pulling voters from her.  The obstacle or concern is getting out people who normally vote for the Democrat nominee.  If you notice, I didn’t say Democrats because many of the sometimes voters who put President Obama in office aren’t “card carrying, meetings attending” proud members of the Blue Team.  I think of it as how dedicated are University of Georgia football fans compared to UGA basketball fans.

So, Bill Clinton, Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton reach the people based in part on who they are personally rather than the power of the party as a cohesive operation (like the Republicans.)  Dem leaders think their base will vote for their nom (Hillary) as an only option because to GOP nom is head of a party with a crazy sub-division.  However, there is another option: stay home.  Say what, real Americans like me vote in every election including a run-off for local dog catcher.

But after the high of having Barrack Obama in the Oval, the next move for some people will be to look for non-governmental solutions because even the smoothest president in history couldn’t fixed your jacked-up life.  “….as not what this country can do for you…..”

Hurricane Farrakhan: Minister Louis Farrakhan is about to return to Washington, D.C., for a rally commemorating the historic Million Man March.  Team Hillary should be concerned….very, very concerned because the platform of the DNC seems to be based on governmental assistance rather than encouraging all Americans to step their personal games up.  If you notice the personal responsibility message to the Black community has always been the core of Farrakhan’s and  Malcolm X’s missions.

These young Blacks today are information savvy and recognize that the Democrats aren’t producing results. They want straight talk and clear solutions.  When Farrakhan finishes his indictment on “Brother Barrack”’s political party,  20% of the Obamacrats might blow off the next presidential election and that would be a mistake.

Team Hillary has countless Ivy League nerds with charts, polls and algorithms.  If those cats join with the bishops from the Black churches and folks who marched with King, they won’t create a message that will sense to regular people.

While the official Hillary campaign can’t address certain issues in certain ways, they better hope that outside operations come up with an approach similar to this blog’s Best Interest Initiative.

Secretary Hillary Clinton becoming president could come down to getting out the Democrat base in November 2016 and that won’t be easy because something fresh and different must be crafted.  Yes, she is a thousand times better for our community than most of the GOP candidates but that isn’t enough.  Democrats must frame their approach to our community post-Obama.

History will remember Barrack as a great president—one of my three favorites of all times.  We remember that candidate Obama said he wasn’t running to be the president of Black America and he was correct; he is the president of the all of America.  With that said, Blacks can finally see that who is in high office is secondary to what we do for self.  John F. Kennedy said “ask not what this country can do for you….ask what you can do for this country.”  What you can do is stop messing up and stop waiting for the government to fix your life.

At church yesterday, the head of the Stewards Board made a brief speech that centered on our community now being free but stated that with freedom has come a freedom to rob, kill, steal and do other detrimental things.

I have been saying for years that we are our own worst enemies.  In the post-Obama era, we need an honest and frank discussion about how we carry ourselves.   Hillary Clinton’s campaign could go the way of Al Gore’s if the Black community doesn’t feel that voting is important.  After everything the Clinton/Gore White House did for regular people, these same people didn’t feel the need to vote for Al Gore…unbelievable.

So, the zillions of dollars that will be in the elect Hillary movement should be used in part to explain to our community that Democrats are about us more than the GOP.  No, Blacks won’t vote for the Republican nominee because the crazy part of their party keeps us away but Blacks might stay home.

Surprisingly, Rachel Dolezal and Louis Farrakhan could tilt the balance of power in a way similar to Elian Gonzalez and Al Gore.  Remember, the Cuban boy who was sent back to Cuba by the Clinton Administration.  I knew right then that this issue would determine who would be president and the election came down to south Florida, pregnant chads and all that drama.

Rachel Dolezal is a White civil rights activist who decided at some point to self-identify as Black.  There have always been White Americans doing serious work for the advancement of racial equality; their efforts and achievements exceed those of most Black people.  But, she should have said I am White technically but Black culturally.

The presidential campaign problem is this: Dolezal felt the need to become Black because she likely knew that Blacks are weary of non-Blacks telling us how to feel, think and action.  You know we all loved Bill Clinton as the first socially Black president until we actually had a Black presidential candidate.  Remember, all hell broke loose when the Clintons tried to tell their long-time Black friends that being with Hillary was the thing to do.  But, we (yes, me included) said Obama is special…not because he is Black but because he is just special….Washington, Lincoln, JFK, special.  Oh, Bill Clinton is one of my favorite presidents of all-time but he couldn’t get me away from Barack.

In the South, Blacks now make up most of the Democrat Party because most rural Whites (former Dixiecrats) bounced for the GOP.  However, the leadership of the Dem Party is still rich White people.  In Georgia, I call them the Buckhead crew.  The old saying goes “real power is who is at the table when the money is counted….not who is on the stage during the speeches.”  The Buckhead crew eats and Blacks get the crumbs afterwards…just like the plantations of old.  It’s based on color and that color is money green.

The Buckhead crew and the national DNC try to win in Georgia by getting out the vote in Atlanta.  But Atlanta Blacks are too liberal to vote for moderate Dems like the recent U.S. Senate and governor candidates.  That energy should have been spent getting out moderate to conservative Black voters in areas that support Rep. Sanford Bishop and former Rep. John Barrow.  Hillary could win Georgia with non-Atlanta Blacks, White suburban moms and the ATL base.  Rachel Dolezal has us thinking about who is at the top and that’s thinking that Hillary doesn’t need.

Minister Louis Farrakhan drives the Buckhead crew crazy because he could plant a seed of doubt with Blacks about Democrat leadership.  First, Farrakhan’s views on Middle East and religion aren’t on the table in this blog post.  Peace to all three Abrahamic faiths from this Black Methodist.  I will say that Psalms 82 makes the Dems seem more in tune with Biblical teachings regarding the needy than the GOP.

Psalms 82

82 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

In the post Obama era, we remember that Farrakhan and Black nationalists have been encouraging Blacks to do for self, eschew governmental assistance and getting ourselves together for over half a century.  Psalms 82 could play out today like this: help those who might become poor not become poor in the first place.  Paul wrote that those who don’t work shouldn’t eat.  Some feel that Democrats handouts since LBJ have limited Black growth. Farrakhan recently did a radio interview in preparation for another massive Washington rally and everyone on Hillary’s team should listen to the whole thing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-xNgDpw9R8

In the future, the conservative movement will realize that Farrakhan’s message to our community is similar to their message.  Hillary Clinton has time to craft the next phase of our community’s relationship with the Democrat Party.  The approach should be more about self-determination than assistance.

I missed President Obama talking about getting Cousin Pookie off the couch to go vote last winter.  The election results indicate that “Pookie n nem” stayed right there on that sofa, futon or whatever.  As Secretary/Senator/former FLOTUS Hillary Clinton ramps up her campaign, she must know that the actions of Pookie, Ray Ray and n nem in the fall of 2016 could tip the balance of the presidential election.

First, I declare my continued admiration for cool presidents Barrack Obama, Bill Clinton, JFK and Teddy Roosevelt.  However, Obama is all kinds of special with his coolness.  He is so cool that I support him in general when I would have personally preferred different positions on matters.  But, that’s cool because the American people selected him and I respect the process.  I even respected the Office of the Presidency during the Bush Administrations—something many of my Republican friends can’t current say.  I would like to add that not respecting  the process and ignoring laws that you don’t like is in my opinion un-American.

I keep hearing that President Obama will be on the “right side of history” about this and that.  He is that bold kind of guy but sometimes he is doing what he knows is right as opposite to what the nation in general wants….like Lincoln.   In college pol sci class, we called that a trustee elected official.  That trustee puts the information on the table and makes a wise decision.  Of course, we didn’t have the freaking internet information/new media machine in college and everyone wasn’t an expert on everything.

I know Pookie and Ray Ray n nem more and better than 95% of the politicos and staffers in Washington because I am part of nem (corruption of them.)  Since I was sent to political and financial exile in the “kountry,” I have been listening and learning like Napoleon.  I watch football on that same couch with Pookie before I went to vote but getting him to go is hard because the “Right side of history” Democrats seem to have less interest in the rural “we can’t win there” areas and more interest in needs of the Latino and gay communities….that’s what the homeboys are saying.

If the first Black president can’t get them to vote when he isn’t on the ballot, can the Dems count on that block in 2016?  If there is hope, it starts with listening to their concerns and explaining clearly and plainly what alternatives would be.  Scary them with the truth then take it back to the future.

Black moderates should be talking about a less government- involved community similar to the 1950s and 1960s.  Of course, the government is need to protect basic civil rights for all Americans but Ray Ray is starting to see kids coming up (not growing up) expecting the governmental safety net and that expectation thwarts personal development and achievement.   While we were under constant fear of domestic terrorism before 1970, we were grinding hard to improve ourselves—we were mindful about how we carried ourselves.

Democrats seriously having that conversation might get a few of those departed conservatives back.   But, efforts like the Best Interest Initiative never get  support and funding.  It will be “go find the preachers and tell them to tell Black folks to vote.”  Church folks will vote anyway but Pookie and Ray Ray n nem are going to needs something new and real.

Will the Black vote baton be passed from Obama to Hillary, will it be intercepted by an innovative elephant like Rand Paul (unlikely) or will it fall to the dirt?  With so much time before the presidential primaries, candidates have time to test and research new projects to reach all voters—run it up the flag pole and see who salutes.

Of course, all campaigns should be reading Project Logic Ga’s Best Interest Initiate because I have personally crafted a unique budget-friendly approach to many southern concerns.

Best Interests Initiative

Recently, the Hillary Clinton campaign announced the hiring of LaDavia Drane, former executive director of the Congressional Black Caucus, as outreach director and point person for the Black community.  Ms. Drane seems really bright and hopefully she will acknowledge the diversity of the Black community across this great nation.  To me, the CBC and BET has a thing about being “urban” this and “urban” than; like the Black community in Georgia is only the A-T-L.

Well, a quick look at last year’s elections would indicate that Atlanta Blacks didn’t care for Democrat candidates for governor and U.S. Senate who spent more time bragging about connections to old Dixiecrats and current Republicans than embracing the Democrat in the Oval Office.  Some of the time and energy spent trying to get the Atlanta vote out should have been spent on the rest of Georgia where Black voters are more moderate to conservative.  But, people sitting in strategy rooms in the DNC see Atlanta as a big juicy peach and the rest of Georgia as a pit.

Hillary Clinton could win Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia with ease if the suburban soccer moms support her.  It could be a national landslide for Clinton if that demographic was paired with most of the Obama voters but the uncertain segment of the Obama coalition is called Cousin Pookie.

President Obama coined the term Cousin Pookie for inconsistent voters.  Pookie would be the guy who voted for Obama during the presidential elections but didn’t vote for any other candidates on the ballot (i.e. the Congress that Obama needed).  Pookie doesn’t vote in midterm elections that often.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Starting tomorrow, you can vote too. You’ve got to grab your friends. You’ve got to grab your co-workers. You know, don’t just get the folks you know are going to vote. You’ve got to find Cousin Pookie, he’s sitting on the couch right now watching football, hasn’t voted in the last 5 elections, you’ve got to grab him and tell him to go vote.

That Leader of the Free World Obama really cracks me up; he was so right.  But peep this: Democrats and Republicans should sit down on the couch with Cousin Pookie and ask him why he doesn’t feel the need to vote.  Wait a second, Pookie is over his mom’s house; a house purchased under a USDA first time homebuyers program.   He has countless friends who used military service as a ticket to a secure and better life.  Of course, Pok should be watching CNN during half-time of the football game because the wrong President could send those homeboys and homegirls in uniform into harm’s way for questionable reasons.

What would happen if Pookie was looking for CNN and came across Sen. Rand Paul, a GOP presidential candidate with some interesting views on prison cost and weed.  Paul is making a real effort at outreach.

In Georgia, Cousin Pookie might live in Hotlanta but he has folks from rural areas and the five or six smaller cities.  That would be Cousin Ray Ray.  Ray Ray served in the military after graduating from high school; he has never been in trouble with the law in his life.  When Ray watches the Democrats on T.V., he see a bunch of liberals who are breaking their necks to give free stuff to folks who have never show any personal initiative.  Actually, Ray Ray and his co-workers at the plant are pissed that their tax dollars are being used for more handouts than handups.

Cousin Ray Ray agrees with some of the conservative messages from talk radio in his F-150 or Ram with a Hemi but the next thing you know the talk about the President turns ugly and mean-spirited.

With so much time before next year’s election, the Dems and GOPers have time to listen to Pookie and Ray Ray.  Someone needs to come up with a fresh approach; something that’s about solutions and answers.  In the South, many Whites who voted for Bill Clinton are deep, deep into the conservative movement.  They are going, going, gone like a Braves home run.  To win, Hillary must replace them with suburban voters and rural Obamacrats.

I personally think the conservative movement has been hijacked by the most radical element but the Republican presidential nominee won’t need to say “they are sitting on their tailgates…listening to NASCAR.”  Oh, conservatives vote without encouragement and one voting conservative carries more weight than 1,000 non-voting Cousin Pookies.

There are those who think that listening to positive Cousin Ray Ray’s personal history and opinions will get Ray Ray voting and that Cousin Pookie should be listening to Fox News’ coverage of the GOP primary season.  If Fox doesn’t scare him off the couch, he isn’t coming off and Dems should let him feel the wrath of the Tea Party.

Naw, that wouldn’t be right.  I was reading about Esther in the Bible today and she said in Esther 8:6 For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction  of my kindred?   While the GOP isn’t exactly evil, some of them can be quite naughty.

Zora Neale-Hurston said “All my skinfolks ain’t my kinfolks.”  At some point, my community might need to spend more time and energy on the positive segments and less on Cousin Pookie.  In time, Pookie will get the message and decide to become Paul, Jr., an American voter.

bear1

Don’t you hate it when people think they know everything and don’t ask  for anyone’s opinion?  After years of blogging, I am again asking for help in crafting an effective approach to changing how we make  public policy.  I can decide if “Can’t Bear It” or “Properly Channeled Anger” would be better or maybe both.

I am just ticked off and can’t bear being angry about what seems obvious.  Rather than acting like I know everything, I have decided to blog post this rough outline—run it up the flag pole and see who salutes.  The best outcome would be well design initiative that spurs some really improvements.  In the past, we would come up with ideas and dream about sharing them at public gatherings.  Today, the better idea is to create a platform to share thoughts and vent frustrations first.  And to think, it started with a hooded bear.

Can’t Bear It/Properly Channeled Anger

Background: We all get angry and upset with injustice and wrongdoing.   Much of that energy is spent purely venting.  What if that energy was directed toward improvement, change and growth?  From voting to self-analysis, growing and improving is the sweetest response to wrong.

Objective: To use unconventional methods to encourage voting by everyone, to encourage constructive analysis of ourselves and our situations and to get heading in a better direction.

Hooded Bear: I am cute bear in a hoodie—a cub at that.  I’m stuffed and therefore not even a real bear.  Does the hoodie change my cuteness?  Fundamentally, I am the same bear with secondary regard for my choice of gear…Burberry if you notice.

So I am a bear on a computer…literally—which is similar to the proverbial fish with a bicycle.  I can’t use this laptop to facilitate change—particularly changing laws and changing lawmakers that would declare open season on those who simply “look” dangerous.  Did I mention that my hoodie is plaid and expensive?

If I were a real cub, I be might related to that cub that President “Teddy” Roosevelt didn’t shoot back in the day.  So being a cute bear in a hoodie (real or stuffed) is safer than being a young person in a hoodie in certain places.  If that makes you angry, join this cub in the club.  But what shall we do with that anger?

Hey,this club could be called Properly Channeled Anger because reasonable people should figure out a way to fix what is broken in our communities, our government and ourselves.  I know the pun is cheesy but “Can’t Bear It” would have worked as well because reasonable people shouldn’t be able to bear seeing inexplicable actions or inactions.   Finally, this bear won’t bare himself; he won’t remove his hoodie to conform to the requires of small-minded people.  He would however rock a tasteful pinned-striped suit during his corporate 9 to 5.

Can’t Bear:

  1. Not Voting: Can you believe the fact that the people most affected by public policy are often the same people who don’t vote. From Candy Crush to Farmville to Madden to reality television, we spend countless hours on questionable activities but can’t take a little time to vote.

  1. Invisible People: Make no mistake about it: to many elected officials and policymakers, people who aren’t voting get little consideration—they are essentially invisible or irrelevant.

  1. Stand Your Ground: Clearly the nation had a contentious debate about these gun usage laws. It seems that state legislators passed these laws after hearing from one side of the argument and with little thought to how the laws would function.  “If you felt you were in danger…”  Is that declaring open season on people who aren’t like me?

  1. Referendum on President Obama: While he isn’t on the ballot in 2012, U.S. Senate races across the country are about the President’s party controlling one of the two houses of Congress and stopping the other major party from attempting to humiliate him for his last two years. So, all of these people put Obama in office twice but ignore the follow-up work.. i.e. giving him a congress and state governments that are about the people’s business.  Remember, the House and Senate impeach and hold impeachment trials.

  1. Referendum on Hillary Clinton: Don’t sleep, the elections of 2014 are test for which areas Clinton can target in 2016…what are the new battlegrounds. 2014 candidates are testing messages to see what resonates with voters.

  1. Can’t bear the mirror: Surprisingly, Americans need to self-analyze to determine how much of what is right or wrong with our lives is the result of our actions….our choice, decisions and consequences. Hey, elected officials can only do so much; they need to tell the truth about the role of government and convince the people to act accordingly.  To be honest, much of government spending goes to help people out of ditches that they dug.

  1. Education: Wow, so many parents think that sending their children to school in nice gear is their part of the learning process. These parents often fail to speak proper grammar at home, allow countless hours of video games rather than reading/homework and don’t establish the discipline/focus foundation that kid’s need to be good students.

  1. Communication: It is vitally important that every American listens to the thoughts and concerns of others. Yes, the points of view of the loyal opposition should be respectfully heard if only to be picked apart.

  1. Policy War: If public policy is a war, we could prepare ourselves for warfare but also hope that the other side realize how wrong they are and come to the negotiations table. In other words, we should wish for constructive dialog and understanding.

As President Nixon would say, I want to make one thing perfectly clear: Nunns and Carters can’t win in Georgia in 2014 without Obamas and Clintons.  Jason Carter is running for governor and Michelle Nunn seeks an open U.S. Senate seat.

The exodus of the Georgia Whites from the Democrats to the Republicans was completed when Congressman Jim Marshall was defeated by Austin Scott.  Marshall tried to paint himself as a non-Democrat Democrat by running from Barrack Obama and then Speaker Nancy Pelosi.  He basically tried to become Sam Nunn.  Sir, I staffed in the Georgia congressional delegation that was led by Sam Nunn…I met Sam Nunn during my high school years…we went to countless Hill receptions with Senator Nunn.. you, Jim Marshall, was no Sam Nunn.  You don’t run from Obama and expect my communities support.

Like it or hate it, the formula for November 2014 Dem success in Georgia is:

(n + ca)/(o x cl)=w         or (Nunns + Carters) / (Obamas x Clintons) = wins

First, Jason Carter and Michelle Nunn are good and decent candidates on their own.  However, Georgia is a Red State because the Democrat base is so very shaky.  The four pillars of strength that support the Dem foundation nationally are two Obamas and two Clintons.  To be honest, Michelle needs to be a flying Nunn crisscrossing the peach state with Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama or both.  As Bernie Mack would say, “you don’t understand”…. Michelle Obama still has rock star status with Dem voters; she could pack a college football stadium with only three days notice.

The reality is this: rural Whites are a lock for the GOP but suburban voters of all colors are on the table if the Dems come out with a moderate agenda focused on job creation.  Who can deny that Bill Clinton’s economy plan left the nation in great shape.  On Meet The Press this past weekend, the question was “would Hillary run as a continuation of the Obama years or restart of the Clinton years?”  I say it would be the beginning of the Hillary years.

The far Right should stop tripping on Hillary Clinton’s age because she would take office at the same age as President Reagan and a few years younger than John McCain would have been if he won.

Michelle Nunn is on that chill style like her father and that won’t get out the bloc of voters that almost won Georgia for Obama.  That’s okay because unlikely voters have a lot to think about this year….the motivation is there.  They just need a little knowledge and wisdom from the blogosphere; we call it “that fire.”  Don’t sleep: Nunn’s senate race will be studied by Team Hillary as they plan to take parts of suburbia back from the GOP.

This election year promises to be crazy and we should list some of the craziest aspects.   The two major political parties would be crazy not to seek two groups in the South.  Democrats need rural Whites and Republicans need a 5 to 10% of the Black vote.

The GOP seems more like an elitist club than a national party but changing demographics indicate that they should seek some minority support.  It’s crazy if the GOP future plans center around suppressing Black votes or hoping people of color stay home on election day.

Democrats would be crazy to think anything is happening in the South without considerable White involvement.  Georgia Senate candidate Michelle Nunn is the great White hope for the Dems and congressional candidate Vivian Childs should be the great Black hope for the GOP.

I don’t think southern legislatures fully realize how crazy upset people are with “Stand Your Ground’ laws.  Poor people would be crazy not to realize that Dems are trying to give healthcare to everyone.  You know that people without any health insurance simply use the emergency room as a doctor’s office and that is more expensive in the long run.

I am a southern gentleman and politics should never compromise southern gentility.  The way the GOP is starting to attack Hillary Clinton makes me cringe.  While I don’t care for the politics of Sarah Palin, I never said crazy things about her.  Can my friends on the right say the same thing about the Obamas and Clintons.

Georgia is one of the best place in the world for Blacks.  Only crazy politicians run for office here without seek support from Blacks and Whites.  The statements candidates make in the primary could serve as motivation for the other side in November.  If you don’t think Hillary Clinton can get enough women voters to win several Southern states, you must be crazy.  If you don’t think that Blacks won’t vote when Obama isn’t on the ballot, crazy should be your middle name.

Finally, you must be crazy to think that I am a Republican because I am voting in the GOP primary tomorrow.  I vote every time and want my vote to have the maximum impact.  In my area, the primary action is on the GOP side.  Plus,  Blacks shouldn’t pull all of our eggs in one basket or allow anyone to take us for granted.

While pink wristbands on football players are great, voting now would be cool also. Yea, local elections have an effect on the healthcare and all cancer.  Local politicians are the building blocks to state and national elections.  On those two levels, the big business in the healthy industry fought Hillary Clinton in the 90s and Barrack Obama recently on healthcare reform because the status quo keeps them paid.

In the Audacity of Hope, President Obama wrote of universal healthcare so everyone would have at least some coverage.  We know that uncovered people often use the emergency room as a doctor’s office—reacting to sickness rather than implementing wellness.  We are praying for the recovery of Rep. Sanford Bishop from throat cancer.  Early detection located it in time.  If everyone had an annual doctor’s exam, we would have more early detection rather than cancer growing; once cancer grows, we then spend billions often fight a losing battle.  Understand, a little money up front would have saved more people and more money.  We should thank Rep. Bishop for supporting rural healthcare for decades.

To be fair, my current local officials do a decent job on municipal matters but they also serve as sounding boards for the state legislature and U.S. Congress.  I think of that old gospel song about “he never said a mumbling word” and think of those whose tried to help poor people get basic health coverage being attacked on all fronts.  Where were the local leaders (who we know privately to be reasonable people) during those vicious attacks?  They never said a word.  We had a pastor who was nice with her logic.  She said people say “Lord they need you over here and they need you over there….but the Lord is likely saying ‘why do you think I put you there…get to work.'”

Oh, they attack Bill and Hillary Clinton in the nastiest ways.  How can you call yourself a southern gentleman or lady and attack a woman the way Hillary was attacked in the 90s and the way First Lady Michelle Obama was assailed on the campaign trail and every second of husband’s presidency….while supposedly good people stood by silently.

The local elections of the next two weeks are also about two other elections down the road.  In the U.S. Senate race next year in Georgia, Michelle Nunn might face former candidate for governor Karen Handel.  After losing the governor race, Handel went to work for one of the biggest women cancer fighting organizations but left in a controversy about funding or defunding places that provide women reproduction services.  Bill, Hillary and Obama always say that you reduce the number of abortions by reducing the number of unplanned pregnancy in the first place but that logic is lost on some people.

Sam Nunn was a great conservative Democrat in the Senate and his daughter would add a woman’s view to the Georgia congressional delegation.  But, she can’t win without local officials getting out the vote.  So, we need to put local leaders in office this year that will stand with Nunn in 2014 and Hillary Clinton in 2016.  The silly drama in Washington today could be reduced in the future if the old boys club had some more reasonable women.

I got to get me some pink gear for my tennis bag but I also need some local, state and federal officeholders who will make healthcare coverage (and therefore early detection) commonplace.

5:10 a.m. is before the dawn of a new southern day or as we use to say “ ‘fore day in the morning.”  It’s also the dawn of a new day politically and the beginning of a new season.   Change is obligatory.

The local elections this year and the wider elections next year are good times to lay the foundation of what we need in your southern communities.  We need leaders who speak openly and honestly about bringing us together and improving our conditions.  Co-founder of this blog Helen Blocker Adams is such a leader and Augusta, Georgia, should make her their next mayor.

Helen and I have spent countless hours discussing the importance of bridging community divides and that is the reason I chose a southern bridge for the cover art of this blog.  The rock band the Police had a reggae song called “One World Is Enough For All Of Us” that includes the line “we can’t sink while others float because we are all in the same big boat.”  In Augusta, the medical college recently continued it’s land acquisition but fairly created new housing for displace citizens.

We need similar changes in my town and the changes could apply to a thousand American communities.  We are a proud agricultural community; we grown produce.  Only a few percentage of Americans work directly in ag but those hard working people feed everyone else.  While I generally have no stomach for Donald Trump, he is correct in stating that America doesn’t make things anymore and making things will be the return of jobs.

The new mission for my community should surprisingly be based on towns like Mayberry from television.  See, some people like to raise families and grow old in peaceful, friendly places where everyone knows and cares for everyone else.  My town is sandwiched between two larger cities and to me, we are a bedroom community for those who don’t mind a short drive for some peace.

We need leaders who are concerned with every little corner of the community because problems and trouble know no boundaries.  In our local elections, every candidate is personally cool with me and I would be lying if I said that basic municipal services weren’t fine.  They are.

However, there comes a time when talented leadership should step up to the next challenge…when your services and skills are better required on a different level of government.  For example, New Jersey has two bright rising stars and I personally like their new style of leadership.  Newark Major Cory Booker is running for the U.S. Senate and this guy earned his stripes.  He is a Sanford/Yale guy whose parents were two of the first Blacks at IBM but he lived in the projects as mayor to better understand the lives of his citizens.  The guy doesn’t talk in generalizations; he gets down to details of what is wrong—straight no chaser.  He speaks directly to the people about what they should do to improve their communities.

President_Barack_Obama_Tours_Storm_Damage_in_New_Jersey_7

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is clearly running for president and if Hillary isn’t the next POTUS, it should be him.  The big guy tells it like it is and doesn’t might stepping on a few toes if needed.

In southwest Georgia, the Chamber of Commerce types have done an admirable job of marketing our communities with emphasis being on the good qualities.  However, it’s time to address (deal with) the rest of the community.  Where are the leaders who can comfortably and firmly bring out the best from the rest?  Countless sons and daughters of the rural South dream about retiring to these piney forests but two main concerns are the racial climate and the growing actions of the thug element.

We need to grow our youth with the care we have traditionally used to produce our crops.  We must prepare the soil, plant the seed organically and monitor until ripeness.  But, we must also root out weeds and remove pests.

Issues that local candidates should be addressing included:

1. Police: It’s wonderful when the local police achieve that delicate balance between firmness and compassion.  During the Clinton Presidency, the Congress passed a Crime Bill that promoted Community Policing.  The best officers (we have some good ones) know their patrol areas and greet people.  They use knowledge of and relationships with citizens to serve and protect.  Unfortunately, some officers develop a hard spirit from constantly dealing with thugs; they should remember that the vast majority of the people appreciate and support them.  Cops should smile and walk more.

2. Economic Development: We know that real E.D. begins in the homes, the schools and the churches.  Hey, the Chamber can’t attract industry to a town if those industrial leaders read rough stats about the educational abilities of the workforce.  An unofficial duty of elected officials is encouraging citizens to be fully focused on achievement—get in their faces like Booker and Big Chris up Jersey way.

3. Downtown Revitalization: Madison, Tifton, Moultrie, Americus, Thomasville. Even Hahira.  These Georgia towns have cool downtown areas.  The granola-eating, bicycle-riding, wine-sipping types love to live in and visit towns with preserved character.  I still don’t get antiquing because it reminds me of rough days for us but hey, if it brings dollars to town, roadshow your blank off.  I do love old buildings with character and retrofitting them with lofts brings life back to downtown.  Paris, Napa Valley and Barcelona have a café culture and so can south Georgia but rather than sitting outside on the sidewalk sipping Riesling we might preferred sweet tea or a cool one from a Mason jar–Duck Dynasty style.  This would be a nice way to watch the Bulldogs, Yellow Jackets or Falcons give a game away…again.

4. Crime: We need leaders who will work with state and federal officials to address the growing cost of criminal activity.  Of course, it starts with education, faith and better parenting.  The next crop of leaders needs to be familiar with regular folks—dare I say that they should have street cred.  You must know the streets to fix the streets.

5. Housing: Homeowership anchors a taxpaying family to a community.  Whatever happened to starter homes?  Let’s be honest, item number four (crime) has people moving out of town.  The thug element frightens people…me included.  But, hell no.  The houses in my community were built my farmworkers who moved to town.  These people work so hard (making money for someone else) to purchase their slice of the American dream.  Today, most of those men have gone to glory and their widows live in fear from half-raised boys…raised more by hip hop videos than family and church.   You can’t be a new community leader if approaching those young men isn’t in your nature. At some point, we need to secure federal funding to relocate some ag operations from the town’s center to the outskirts and replace that area with mixed-use housing.  I want to hear “let’s walk to church” again.

6. Resourcefulness: we have a fine crop of local candidates.  If they play their cards right, those who don’t win can’t run for the Georgia General Assembly next year with the support of the person who beat them.  Our statehouses need new blood because the political parties seem out of touch.  They put party over people.  I take my hat off to Governor Christie for working with President Obama when New Jersey got hit my a super storm.  That’s what leaders do to be resourceful.

Elected officials and public employees have official responsibilities and also have unofficial duties.  These duties aren’t on paper but are sometimes as important as the items on the official job descriptions.  For example, Hillary Clinton would have been and still will be a fine president; she knows presidential stuff as well as Bill Clinton, Barrack Obama and the second George Bush did on the day they were sworn into office.

But, there was something special about Obama becoming president; something related to healing.  Also, my community needed to have someone who looks like them in office so he could once and for all tell them that a person who is like you isn’t going to give you everything.  Obama said that from the first day of his campaign and people get it now.

Those unofficial duties therefore explaining the limited role of government to hardhead people who only listen to people from their circle.  In my hometown, we recently had an issue with flooding.  A city councilman was on the local T.V. news broadcast saying that the city government wasn’t the problem with certain flooding.  Water wasn’t flowing properly because locals were tossing bottles and trash into ditches and that debris clogged the pipes.  I love it; dude basically said, “The problem is you.”  We need more of that.

While it might sound racial, I want more Black clean cut guys in lower grades teaching positions because some kids don’t see positive brothers during their development.  Non-Black students need to see that also because they’re formulating their opinions of us on rap videos and the fools on the Maury Povich Show.  If I had Oprah/Bill Gates type money, I would give a grant or supplement to Black male teachers in lower grades.  Hey, two students at my black college told me that Senator Saxby Chambliss’ wife was one of the sweetest and most loving people in their lives.  Seeing her at school was the high point of their day and a positive light in an otherwise tough childhood.

Hillary Clinton is going to be president and little girls can be proud of the fact that women make the world go around.  If I had my choice, I would still like to see Republican Jon Huntsman in the White House one day because part of his unofficial duties would be being a conservative who isn’t angry and dismissive. He drives the far right crazies more crazy with his cool approach.  I am uniquely qualified to say vote for the right person in the right situation because I am a moderate Democrat who has voted for both of Georgia’s current U.S. Senators a few times.  I voted for them because they support the economic engines of this region: agriculture and the military.

Of course, it’s not cool for reasonable members of a group to remain quiet as other members of that group say ugly things about others.  I wouldn’t be quiet if someone was talking about all White people being this or that when I know that isn’t true.  That would be ugly by association.  What about those rich kids who had “the help” as second mothers but who grow up to say the ugliness things about all of “those people.”

I tell you what, I am not voting for anyone who doesn’t have a comfort level and functioning relationship with people in every community.  Coni Rice, Jon Huntsman, Colin Powell, Rep. Sanford Bishop and Rep, Jack Kingston come to mind as public servants who can dialog with anyone—disagree without being disagreeable.  The most important unofficial duty might be the ability to reasonably explain public policy to those who disagree with you.

America is at it’s worst when supporters of a public official dare him or her to talk with the other side.  People who don’t make much money and people who have had it rough (by their own creation) are still Americans.  Any person, political parties or group that wants to suppress their voting are un-American to me.  This whole blog post isn’t race-based because the last time I checked most of the people in my community have as much affection for the presidential service of Bill Clinton as for Barrack Obama.  As quiet as it is kept, that southerner White dude knows more about these piney woods in Georgia than any president other than James Earl Carter.

With unofficial duties in mind, Michelle Nunn and Karen Handel get a certain amount of consideration for U.S. Senate because they have that lady logic working.  Yes, the Georgia congressional delegation needs a woman’s touch and I would look seriously at a sista from the GOP running for the U.S. House.  Sisters in my community are now and have always been relatively conservative and they know that our community has become too reliant on the government.  It’s a shame that the Tea Party will force Handel to act hardcore to win their primary.  Rep. Jack Kingston is in that senate primary and that cat will talk with anyone anywhere because that is part of his official duties.

Unofficial duties include telling it like it “tiz.” If you don’t know that that adage, you might not be ready to represent both sides of the tracks down here.

In the local elections this fall, I know and respect all of the candidates.  But, competition is actually healthy; competition like Obama vs. Hillary that elevated both of their games.  I can’t help but think that better competition might  have compel Rep. Sanford Bishop to have been hungrier legislatively and could have lead him into the U.S. Senate or a presidential cabinet postition.

Barrack Obama was defeated in a U.S. House race by Bobby Rush, who is from Albany, Georgia.  Heaven only knows who would be president today if Obama got bogged down in the morass of the House.

Local and state elected positions are building blocks for federal positions.  Actually, there are members of the state legislature who never wanted to be in the Congress.  Being a part-time lawmaker is cool but being a full-time congressman would be a pay cut for a person balling in the private sector. i.e. state Rep. Calin Smyre of Columbus.  By building blocks I mean that congressional candidates look to members of the state house and state senate for support.  Candidates for the state houses in turn look to local officials.  Of course, presidential candidates look to elected officials on all levels.

To make it plain, Hillary Clinton 2016 starts with local elections this year.

I am ticked off by the ultra conservatives who ran moderates out of the Republican Party and who are designing laws and procedures in the state capitol to limited Americans from voting.  They seem to be functioning under the Jean-Paul Sartre/Malcolm X phrase “By any means necessary.”

Gerrymandering of state legislature and U.S. Congress lines have left large sections of the South with one party leadership. In other words, candidates can win elections with little input and support from anyone who doesn’t look like them or thinking totally like them.  My friends in the conservative movement will dare elected officials to listening to and explaining matters to the other side.  I thought that was their jobs.  To give credit where credit is due, Rep. Sanford Bishop and Rep. Jack Kingston love to talk issues with anyone in their service areas—hats off to them for that.

I want paraphrase Jesus to those whom might come up short in the coming election: Let not your heart be troubled…in my father’s house are many mansions.”  The houses I have in mind are the state house and state senate.  These are the legislative bodies where laws like “stand your ground” were passed. The place where state officials and lawmakers think it is cute to make it hard for regular people of any color to vote.

Look, I didn’t like former Democrat Congressman Jim Marshall and I gladly voted for reasonable Republican candidate Austin Scott because Marshall slamming Dems was too much.  With the same strategy in mind, I hope that some of the candidates who fall short in the local elections will consider running for the state houses next year—from either major political party.   I am sure that there are enough southern moderates to sway some primaries next year.

The most important matter is massive voter turnout.  You can vote for Dora the Explorer for all I care but vote because someone is trying to reverse your rights.  “Oh, after Obama is off the ballot…those people will go back to not voting again….right?”   Wrong.

In the future, we will have some Republican sistas in the Georgia congressional delegation.  These conservative ladies will keep legislative debate civic and tell my community what wise people already know—that the government isn’t your bank.

It’s time for my annual “consider yourselves told” blog post for southern conservatives. For years now, I have been patiently waiting for someone or some group on the right to ask how to do better in my community. My simply solutions would start with an overview of “The Art of War” because the first rule should be to study and learn the ways of the other side. Anyway, I have been writing the same points for years and should have gotten paid from my insight but that’s life. For the record, this discourse is the 2013 version of the same old same old.

Acknowledgement: America would be a better place if people would live the way conservatives wanted. A Bible based clean life would be perfect: no kids until three years into a marriage, zero cocktails, no sagging pants, do any legal employment to provide for self and family.

Problem: In a free society, people have the right to do as they please. It would be grand if all Americans follow their doctor’s recommendations on diet and exercise but that isn’t happening nor are people listening to sound life advice in other aspects of life.
Resulting Problem: So, a person is free to live anyway he or she chooses but if problems result from life choices, they gently fall in the governmental safety net. While that seems fair, we are finding more people who dive in the net from jump street and working people get the bill.

When Liberals are so wrong: Yea, a nation that ensures that all of her citizens have decent homes and decent meals sounds great. But, that would be socialism. In a democracy, the state creates a climate or situation where everyone has an opportunity to work hard, focus, plan and thrive. If your plan doesn’t work, you must keep trying while admitting that you made your lumpy bed.

Conservative Force vs. Moderate Compel: My conservative friends often see everyone else as child who must be told what to do. Say what? They make public policy decisions without general input and their source of knowledge comes from those in their inner circles. Some people have termed this the “donor class” because it’s the conservatives who donate to candidates and causes—in a bubble. They wanted to force their Solomon type decisions on the nation as a whole and regular folks simply laugh. (Remember, some of their approaches make perfect sense but their delivery techniques are appalling.)

On the other hand, moderates take the views of all sides into consideration before crafting logical policy. For example, the “lockem up” crime policies of the past produced macho campaign ads but the astronomical cost of the criminal justice system made even conservatives go back to the drawing board. Some of that money should have been used for education and training to put young people on the right path. Hell, I still think Newt Gingrich’s 1990s idea of giving clean living 21 year olds a $5,000 check was interesting because thug activities cost seven times that amount at least.

Bible Based: There must be a special hot pit in hell for those who twist the Bible to justify whatever provides them increase. I could list a zillion parts of the Bible that the Right uses and another zillion that the Left uses. But, I personally think Jesus of the Beatitudes speech wouldn’t want to see hungry people.

However, First Timothy 5: 8 says “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” Translation: A good dad would take that job flipping burgers.

Proverbs 12:11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding. Translation: Thank a farmer and a rancher in your dinner prayer tonight.

Second Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. Translation: The work requirement provisions of the Food Stamp selection of the Farm Bill weren’t written by Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky but by Paul who use to be Saul of Tarsus.

Fat On Food Stamps: First, food stamps or temporary food assistance helps needy families and helps American farmers by providing additional markets. The “let them starve” mentality doesn’t seem as compassionate as President Reagan or the second President Bush. While starving, the health care cost would be billions and where were these folks when people were trying to fund programs that taught family planning and control. One conservative guy in Florida said that birth control was a grapefruit between the knees—keep those legs closed.

Conservatives don’t know that working Americans are also ticked off by the idea that their tax dollars are paying for someone to get fat on a futon while playing Madden all day or watching Maury Povich. Then, folks use the emergency room as a doctors’ office. My farm bill would provide temporary healthy food aid—no greasy foods . Healthcare reform should have provided a doctor for everyone and the doctor should state clear goals, objectives and consequences. “Sir, you are 100 pounds overweight and you have one year to get under 200 pounds. After that year, there will be no more free health assistance for chubby you. You will thank me in a few years or your family will be picking out hymns for your service.”

Nasty, Just Plain Old Nasty: In the above mention “donor class” of conservatives, you have people who love the vitriol of Fox News and talk radio. I should mention the young staffers and politicos who were sheltered as kids—home schooled, far Right Church, detest everyone and anyone not like them. Again, they are not very Jesus-like and they should stop demonizing folks who have fallen on hard times….there but for the grace of God…..

When the ugliest parts of the conservative movement say things design to fire up their ranks, reasonable conservatives shouldn’t remain quiet. Moderates aren’t quiet when that junk comes from the far Left or far Right.

Voter Suppression: The new nasty is a rehashing of the old nasty: let’s make voting hard. That’s not funny and shame on every conservative who supporters efforts to limit Americans from voting. The voter fraud junk is hogwash and they grin about it behind closed doors. If you can’t win an election fair and square, you shouldn’t resort to shady options. In June, I jumped though so many hoops to renew my driver’s license before I realized that the ultimate goal of conservatives in the state capitol was discouraging me to vote.
Joseph from the Bible: That guy Joseph was done dirty by his brothers but in Genesis 50, 20-21 it says “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.”

We are all southern brothers at the end of the day. I can’t understand voter suppression from the far Right nor can I understand the glamorization of thug living in my community. If anyone thinks the answer is governing the South without input from every section of the community, they have another thought coming. Some people voted for Obama while others voted against ugliness.

The struggle will continue after President Obama exits for Hawaii and candidate Clinton is my kind of tough lady. Yea, the voter turnout won’t be what it was in the past. I actually think it could be higher because people are getting hip to the dirty game.

Zimmerman: When Travon Martin was shot in Florida, George Zimmerman seemed surprised by all the heat coming down on him. He was right in being dumbfounded because he was functioning in a manner sanctioned by Florida state law. People across the country should be mad at themselves for not keeping at better eye on local, state and federal governments. Under the Stand Your Ground Laws, I could fire on a bald White kid running toward me in the parking lot at the store because I have a little concern about skinheads that I occasionally saw in D.C. But, that kid could just be someone with a cheap haircut (like mine) or an actual skinhead jogging to his car. I still don’t want to kill him.

The bottomline is that every American adult should try to vote so that the state legislature will be populated with officials who listen to everyone and who make well-thought out laws. Election results indicate that many Americans voted for President Obama then walked out of the polling booth. We must vote in every contest-from President to dog catcher in Ty, Ty, Georgia.

And we should vote smart. If the GOP is running your region, vote in the Republican primary for the candidate most like you. That action would be the cool move and it would make the far Right crazy mad.

The race to replace Georgia U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss is going to be better than good.  Numbers say that it should be a cakewalk for the G.O.P. but numbers can be wrong.  To me, the recent entry of Dem. Candidate Michelle Nunn is a test for a moderate woman in a changing South.  Nunn approach could open the door to a sizable section of suburban GOP women for her and for Hillary Clinton.

Let’s be honest: Obama got great numbers among Black GOPers and I think Hillary will get as much as a third of the GOP women vote.  The Georgia congressional delegation is currently all-male and heaven knows that’s too much macho.  The Good Old Boys Club in the Georgia state legislature is the farm system or minor leagues for congressional candidates.  But, I could name half-dozen Black Georgia GOP women who could have won seats from Blue Dogs if there was an ounce of flex in the conservative movement (KB, HBA, VC, DH).  There isn’t a gram of flex with him and the Jon Huntsman types were ceremonially shown the door.  Who’s waiting for them outside the door?  Sam Nunn’s daughter.

I am about to miss use the literary device pun while looking at the Georgia Senate candidates but this should be fun.

Michelle Nunn– This lady has “none” of the traditional baggage of the struggling southern Dem Team and neither did her father.  When I worked in the Georgia congressional delegation, Senate Nunn marched to his own drummer.  He simply did what he thought was best for Georgia and the Dems are hopeful that the peach doesn’t fall too far from the tree.  While the Far Right is prepping to blast her with Obama-pinko liberal, we will have “none” of that because she is actually friends with the Bushes—not the Obamas.  Oh, the Tea Party will come hard but I don’t think this lady is a “nun.”  She is kin to former Rep. Carl Vinson so she must be tough if a relative has a freaking aircraft carrier named for him.

Jack Kingston– As a kid, we said “You don’t Jack Sh–.” Well, I can unfortunately report that Georgia might not have the pleasure of knowing Jack Kingston—the Jack I briefly knew.  When I worked on the Hill, I spend time hanging in Jack’s office because he had a staffer who was a personal friend of mine.  Okay, she was so easy on the eyes that I would go to events with them at the RNC Club or whatever their lair was called.  At the time, Senator Nunn ran the Georgia delegation and half of the GA Dems were more conservative than California Republicans.  As the Bard wrote, what’s in a name?

Anyway, I spend about 15 minutes talking with Jack Kingston alone one night at the RNC and he was (is) good people.  Politically, he can blast with both barrels but that is part of the game.  In Savannah, Blacks and Whites know and like Jack personally and my first assume is that Black Savannah and the radiating influence of Savannah State University could compel nice switch numbers for Jack in the primary.  Indications are that the whole GOP field is trying “out-Obama blast” each others and you know the bros can’t get with that.

Karen Handel– “You can’t handle the truth.” The truth about this candidate dumfounded me.  She grew up hard outside D.C. and attended Frederick Douglas High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.  Say what? Upper Marlboro is Black middle class heaven and she went to Doug.  During the governor’s race, I couldn’t believe that she didn’t play this race card because that would have been good for some nice numbers.  She was chairwoman of the Fulton County Commission but her “handlers” didn’t cultivate that potential crossover support.  During the governor’s race, Helen Block Adams really enjoyed her meeting with Handel but it seems that the Tea Party will burn anyone seen listening to moderates. So, she lost win leaving support on the ground.  That’s hard to handle.

Derrick Grayson– I have so much fun listening to Black GOP candidate Grayson because he is “Gray, Son.” The brother is in a grey area from which he blasts the ignorance of both sides.  But, we shouldn’t sleep on his style because he sounds like the oldheads in the barber shop who bring a conservative knowledge that the GOP doesn’t we have.

Paul Broun– Physician, heal thyself.  I am “appalled” by the craziness coming out of this doctor’s mouth.  This Tea Party darling is the key to this senate race.

The Key: Democrats should clear the field for Michelle Nunn; she gets zero primary opponents.  Then, Dems should vote in the GOP primary for Paul Broun because Nunn would beat the brakes off him in the general election.

The Second Key: Some really liberal Dem. candidate will run against Nunn in the primary and she will hone her skills and tune her campaign apparatus while showing contrast.  ala, Obama vs. Hillary.

Third Key: Michelle Nunn’s candidate helps Jack Kingston and Karen Handel because it drives folks away from flirting with Paul Broun.  With a push from the Senator Nunn, the Obamas and the Clintons, Nunn should beat any of these candidates if the GOP primary gets bloody.  There will be blood because Handel has already secured the campaign services of those behind the Kerry Swift boat thing.

To me, Alicia  Keys has written the political song of the decade unbeknownst to her.   She was writing about love or whatever but the lyrics capture my feelings and concerns for the troubled environment in the political/policy arena.

The arena stinks out loud these days.  People are more interested in fighting the opposition than building solutions which improve our great nation.   Is the tail wagging the dog because people in official Washington are battling and giggling while the rest of the nation scratches our heads.

Look, I don’t hate members of any political party and hope that leaders can constructively dialog with each other.   While television fuels intramural conflicts among Americans, I personal believe (like General Colin Powell) that a silent majority of people in the political center and seeks healthy communication at the policy-making table.

I feel sorry for those who live for negativity and thrive on angst.  My life is too short to spend it bitter—that takes too much energy.   We should look at A. Keyes words as if they were written to ugly-acting political folks on both sides.

To be hopefully, I personally feel that we have many good-hearted Americans in the arena.   To start, I like the spirit of Barrack Obama, Jon Huntsman, Condi Rice, Colin Powell, Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush.   Also, the guys at No Labels are on the right track.  As readers of this blog know, I am a moderate Dem who votes for good people with secondary regard for party.   I am more interested in solutions, peace and regional issues.   Plus, good old plain talk is music to my ears.

In my community, the leaders that get us back to self-reliance and away from governmental preoccupation will be golden.   Politically, I am a brand new kind of me and I feel better than I did during my hyper-partisan college years.   Is anyone with me?   I know that rural southerners generally seek the good in people and situations.

Alicia Keys — Brand New Me

It’s been a while, I’m not who I was before
You look surprised, your words don’t burn me anymore
Been meaning to tell you, but I guess it’s clear to see
Don’t be mad, it’s just the brand new kind of me
Can’t be bad, I found a brand new kind of free
Careful with your ego, he’s the one that we should blame
Had to grab my heart back
God know something had to change
I thought that you’d be happy
I found the one thing I need, why you mad
It’s just the brand new kind of me

It took a long long time to get here
It took a brave, brave girl to try
It took one too many excuses, one too many lies
Don’t be surprised, don’t be surprised

If I talk a little louder
If I speak up when you’re wrong
If I walk a little taller
I’ve been on to you too long
If you noticed that I’m different
Don’t take it personally
Don’t be mad, it’s just the brand new kind of me
And it ain’t bad, I found a brand new kind of free

Oh, it took a long long road to get here
It took a brave brave girl to try
I’ve taken one too many excuses, one too many lies
Don’t be surprised, oh see you look surprised

Hey, if you were a friend, you want to get know me again
If you were worth a while
You’d be happy to see me smile
I’m not expecting sorry
I’m too busy finding myself
I got this
I found me, I found me, yeah
I don’t need your opinion
I’m not waiting for your ok
I’ll never be perfect, but at least now i’m brave
Now, my heart is open
And I can finally breathe
Don’t be mad, it’s just the brand new kind of free
That ain’t bad, I found a brand new kind of me
Don’t be mad, it’s a brand new time for me, yeah

To hear experts talk, the next presidential election will be decided in a few swing states.  Democrats in red states must sit back, donate and watch.  The only say many moderates have during the process is the primary elections.

President Obama will be the Democrat nominee but should Dems hedge our bets by voting in the GOP Primary for the most moderate Republican or the candidate we would like to see faceoff against the president.

When told to fall in line in 2008, Hillary Clinton’s supporters created the moniker PUMAs (Party Unity My Ass.)  They felt it was her turn and that she was better prepared to be POTUS.  Eventually, they got behind the Dem nominee and without them it would be President McCain and yes Vice President Palin.

In 2012, the passionate, committed conservatives won’t compile with party bosses so easily if their guy/gal doesn’t make the final cut.  They talk a good game but must make a PUMA-like decision between selecting a nominee who is most like them (Herman Cain, Rick Perry, Michelle Bachman) or selecting someone who can appeal to political moderates and independents (Mitt Romney, Jon Huntsman.)

Did I mention that Red State Democrats have nothing but time on our mischievous hands?

Red State Democrats should consider these GOP Primary options:

Those Who Love Obama’s vibe: vote Huntsman.

Those Who Love An Economic/Jobs focus: vote Cain, Romney or Gingrich.

Those Who Want to See a Georgian In the Oval Office: vote Cain or Gingrich.

Those Who Want to See the GOP nominee be Just Like the Average Far Right Conservative and therefore Unappealing to the Political Center thus Improving Obama Chances: vote Cain or Perry.

Summary: Red State Democrats are consequential after all but can they be organized to make such crafty, cunning poll move.  “Hell Naw” is the likely answer.
