Gil Scott Heron

My mind is blown by election numbers. The mayor of Camilla, Georgia, and I were talking this morning about the vast opportunities that exist for communities that simply register and vote…the squeaky wheel gets the grease. In Sylvester, Georgia, the newspaper reported that 26% of the 2,900 registered voters made it to the polls this month—mayor’s race decide by 600 so-odd people total while it was 1,200 two elections ago.

Parents support the football teams in Camilla, Sylvester and across the South; they brave bone-chilling weather for hours, cook post-game meals and boost the cheerleaders and marching band. I hope they like marching in uniforms because the current occupant of the White House might draft them into a nuclear war with that fellow in North Korea. But, we should remember that President Trump didn’t win the popular vote and less that 10,000 voters in two states could have given the election to Clinton.

Police wear uniforms and I am fortunate to live in a town with decent officers. On the other hand, the Worth County Sheriff’s Office actions are being reviewed. I think I voted for the Sheriff and always had a “how you” familiarity with sheriffs of my teen years. But, when it was time for upset people to sign a petition to recall the Sheriff, it was clear that many if not most of those parents in the football crowd don’t vote.

My brothers hipped me to election stats with the first lines of Gil Scott-Heron’s “B Movie” after Carter fell to Reagan.  But, President Reagan (right or wrong) was tough….cheap steak tough. Trump is a character and real Republicans know it. At the risk of sounding dramatic, life as we know it might be saved by electing local leaders this year who serve as the foundation for winning in 2018 and ultimately taking the White House from Trump and those like him. While candidates are important, it all begins with reaching people—turning pissed-offed people into regular voters. Gil Scott Heron seems like a visionary today.

B-Movie

Well, the first thing I want to say is: Mandate my -ss! Because it seems as though we’ve been convinced that 26% of the registered voters, not even 26% of the American people, but 26% of the registered voters form a mandate or a landslide. 21% voted for Skippy and 3, 4% voted for somebody else who might have been running.

What has happened is that in the last 20 years, America has changed from a producer to a consumer. And all consumers know that when the producer names the tune, the consumer has got to dance. That’s the way it is. We used to be a producer – very inflexible at that, and now we are consumers and, finding it difficult to understand. Natural resources and minerals will change your world. The Arabs used to be in the 3rd World. They have bought the 2nd World and put a firm down payment on the 1st one. Controlling your resources we’ll control your world. This country has been surprised by the way the world looks now. They don’t know if they want to be Matt Dillon or Bob Dylan. They don’t know if they want to be diplomats or continue the same policy – of nuclear nightmare diplomacy. John Foster Dulles ain’t nothing but the name of an airport now.

The idea concerns the fact that this country wants nostalgia. They want to go back as far as they can – even if it’s only as far as last week. Not to face now or tomorrow, but to face backwards. And yesterday was the day of our cinema heroes riding to the rescue at the last possible moment. The day of the man in the white hat or the man on the white horse – or the man who always came to save America at the last moment – someone always came to save America at the last moment – especially in “B” movies. And when America found itself having a hard time facing the future, they looked for people like John Wayne. But since John Wayne was no longer available, they settled for Ronald Reagan and it has placed us in a situation that we can only look at -like a “B” movie.

Come with us back to those inglorious days when heroes weren’t zeros. Before fair was square. When the cavalry came straight away and all-American men were like Hemingway to the days of the wondrous “B” movie. The producer underwritten by all the millionaires necessary will be Casper “The Defensive” Weinberger – no more animated choice is available. The director will be Attila the Haig, running around frantically declaring himself in control and in charge. The ultimate realization of the inmates taking over at the asylum. The screenplay will be adapted from the book called “Voodoo Economics” by George “Papa Doc” Bush. Music by the “Village People” the very military “Macho Man.”

“Company!!!” “Macho, macho man!” “Two-three-four.” “He likes to be .. well, you get the point.” “Huuut! Your left! Your left! Your left, right, left, right, left, right…!”

A theme song for saber-rallying and selling wars door-to-door. Remember, we’re looking for the closest thing we can find to John Wayne. Clichés abound like kangaroos – courtesy of some spaced out Marlin Perkins, a Reagan contemporary. Clichés like, “itchy trigger finger” and “tall in the saddle” and “riding off or on into the sunset.” Clichés like, “Get off of my planet by sundown!” More so than clichés like, “he died with his boots on.” Marine tough the man is. Bogart tough the man is. Cagney tough the man is. Hollywood tough the man is. Cheap steak tough. And Bonzo’s substantial. The ultimate in synthetic selling: A Madison Avenue masterpiece – a miracle – a cotton-candy politician …Presto! Macho! “Macho, macho man!”

Put your orders in America. And quick as Kodak your leaders duplicate with the accent being on the dupes – cause all of a sudden we have fallen prey to selective amnesia – remembering what we want to remember and forgetting what we choose to forget. All of a sudden, the man who called for a blood bath on our college campuses is supposed to be Dudley “God-damn” Do-Right? ”

You go give them liberals hell Ronnie.” That was the mandate to the new Captain Bligh on the new ship of fools. It was doubtlessly based on his chameleon performance of the past: as a Liberal Democrat. As the head of the Studio Actor’s Guild, when other celluloid saviors were cringing in terror from McCarthy, Ron stood tall. It goes all the way back from Hollywood to hillbilly. From Liberal to libelous, from “Bonzo” to Birch idol, born again. Civil rights, women’s rights, gay rights: …it’s all wrong. Call in the cavalry to disrupt this perception of freedom gone wild. God damn it, first one wants freedom, then the whole damn world wants freedom.

Nostalgia, that’s what we want…: the good ol’ days, when we gave’em hell. When the buck stopped somewhere and you could still buy something with it. To a time when movies were in black and white, and so was everything else. Even if we go back to the campaign trail, before six-gun Ron shot off his face and developed hoof-in-mouth. Before the free press went down before full-court press, and were reluctant to review the menu because they knew the only thing available was…Crow.

Lon Chaney, our man of a thousand faces: no match for Ron. Doug Henning does the make-up; special effects from Grecian Formula 16 and Crazy Glue; transportation furnished by the David Rockefeller of Remote Control Company. Their slogan is, “Why wait for 1984? You can panic now…and avoid the rush.” So much for the good news….

As Wall Street goes, so goes the nation. And here’s a look at the closing numbers: racism’s up, human rights are down, peace is shaky, war items are hot. The House claims all ties. Jobs are down, money is scarce, and common sense is at an all-time low on heavy trading. Movies were looking better than ever, and now no one is looking, because we’re starring in a “B” movie. And we would rather had…John Wayne. We would rather had…John Wayne.

“You don’t need to be in no hurry. You ain’t never really got to worry. And you don’t need to check on how you feel. Just keep repeating that none of this is real. And if you’re sensing, that something’s wrong, Well just remember, that it won’t be too long Before the director cuts the scene. yea.” “This ain’t really your life, Ain’t really your life, Ain’t really ain’t nothing but a movie.”

If our rural southern communities are going to improve, we need to change the plan culturally and politically.  The current plantation mentality has not worked in years: fancy candidates raise tons of money for T.V. spots and get working people to “volunteer” to do grassroots.

First, your family’s life would be better culturally if the government wasn’t at the center of it.  You can’t and shouldn’t trust the government (local, state or federal) to care for your kin; that’s your job.

Secondly, the public policy actions of government relative to your family are decided by elected officials.  Candidates and political parties have state of the art computer software that shows voting actions and patterns down to the city block…down to each house.  They know what areas vote and voting areas get the services and attention—the squeaky wheel gets the grease.  In other words, crappy schools and brash policemen start with you not voting.

The Democratic Party often functions as a top-down enterprise with elites in Atlanta and D.C. deciding what is important and how operations should go then selling those plans to the people.  Say what?  Give credit where credit is due: the trashy views that are the base of the current far Right grew organically from the people and folks like Trump parachuted to the top of the steaming heap.

Dems can’t win statewide or win states for president because “down ballot” activities have been missing for years.  However, there is hope for a new Dem political foundation based on the Zero candy bar of our childhoods.   In my youth, the rural South was a mix of Black and White people.  We know southern Whites love the freedom of land—their spreads feels like little kingdoms equipped with standing armies.  Since the church is at the bottom of the hill and the kids are homeschooled, Walmart is the only reason to go into town.

The exodus of Whites to the rural areas leaves the largest town in the county Black…60 and 70 percent Black.  So, a new check and balance is Black political power in city government balancing White control of county government.  That situation would be fine if Black residents would actually vote and if White county voters didn’t insist on still trying to control the big town— because their businesses are there and yes they are vital to the tax base.

It gets better.  Many counties had two high schools when I was a kid…i.e. city kids at Valdosta High and country farm kids at Lowndes High.  But if you watch “Football Town” on the NFL Network, you will see that the money in Lowndes County is now out of town.  The same can be said about Camilla, Pelham and Mitchell County to some degree.   Remember, elected officials hire city managers and city managers select police, fire and other department heads.   So, a countywide school board has to decide the allocation of funds for two high schools—one school has a huge student body but the rural smaller school’s parents pay much more in taxes.  Valuable farmland is the tax base.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5wJ3aZHnfE

Georgia seemed surprised that so many Black mayors were elected recently but it shouldn’t be and city councils should be next.  That Zero Candy bar was white on the outside with chocolate goodness in the center.  Counties from Virginia to Texas are the same way and those new Black elected officials’ campaign teams and voter turnout operations serve as the foundation of Dems winning future statewide and presidential elections from the bottom up….without the approval or permission of Black political relics.  You know that Zero Bar has a hard white shell and the inside includes some soft brown and some brown nuts…just saying.

Since the Republican establishment is facing a restructuring of their party by movements like Trumpism, the Democratic establishment should also have a cleansing enema.  Old school Country Club conservatives were generally pro-business, lower taxes decent people but to win national elections they connected with radical, less sophisticated folks.

From the Tea Party to the Trump crew, the far right radicals have taken over the GOP.  The Democrat establishment is based on liberals on the two coasts, labor union memberships and African Americans.  However, the fastest growing segment of the left is Bernie Sanders’ Progressives.  Their socialism and social free thinking makes some rural Southern Blacks uncomfortable.

Look here, we should put everything on the table during this time of swift transition and maybe a more perfect union will emerge from the fray.  To me, Barack Obama represents what we ideally should be while Donald Trump presents who we actually are—the good, the bad and the ugly.  The early 1980″s hit “Against the Wind” comes to mind because the Democrats are constantly facing election storms—weather they can’t weather.

Crazy notions come off the corners and barbershops in the African American community.  The rapper Jadakiss had a song called “Why” that included the line “Why did  Bush knocked down the towers.”  Of course, he didn’t believe that but was conveying what some folks wildly think.   He also said “Why they let the Terminator win the election.”  Hey, there are wild thoughts across the spectrum.  I say put all of it on the table once and for all then move forward.

The Democrat establishment considers many of the following points of contention “unallowable.”  I say put every possible idea, concept and wild notion up for debate and deliberation.

Unallowable

  1. All military and law enforcement personnel are heroes.
  2. Unwinnable wars against certain enemies.
  3. Constitutional right to religious freedom
  4. America is a Christian nation?
  5. Blacks: Second class citizens yet first class troops
  6. The Confederate States of America: America’s biggest foe?
  7. Honoring drafted C.S.A. troops by all Americans today
  8. Go Back To Africa vs. Ellis Island
  9. Whites Built America…They Did
  10. Native Americans got robbed
  11. Some current Blacks’ actions dishonor the Civil Rights Movement
  12. Is the Hip Hop culture worse than the Klan?
  13. Unprepared Parents
  14. White Privilege won’t go easily
  15. Democrats love undocumented people and Gay people more than Blacks
  16. Should able-bodied people receive food stamps?
  17. Public Assistance while undesirable jobs unfilled
  18. School choice/vouchers
  19. College for Everyone/Massive student loan debt
  20. Republicans: Say anything to win elections
  21. Why do working class Whites support rich Republicans (Trickle-down Economics)
  22. Healthcare for All vs. Uninsured using the E.R. as a doctor’s office
  23. Corporate America (Insurance/Drug Companies) control healthcare with Lobbyists’ Money
  24. Too much money in political campaign ads
  25. Democratic Party wants Blacks to do GOTV grassroots for free
  26. Michael Steele’s plan for GOP diversity vs. eggs in one basket
  27. We don’t make anything in America anymore
  28. Many rural Blacks are actually conservatives
  29. Progressives took over the DNC and the Far Right took over the GOP
  30. Southern Christians are homophobic yet ignore other sins from the Bible
  31. Corporate America would rape the environment for money
  32. American foreign policy doesn’t respect others’ cultural history and civilization
  33. Weak American youth aren’t prepared for the changing global economy..video games vs. STEM
  34. Women are the backbone of the Black home/ Psychological Castration of the Black Man
  35. Government Assistance inadvertently stunts some of Black America
  36. Government Assistance equals Reparations
  37. Black America: delayed gratification vs. minimum wage struggle
  38. Dreams of pro sports vs. academic/vocational development
  39. Learn a Trade job
  40. Black preoccupation with “Looks” over substance
  41. Is prison similar to modern slavery?
  42. Every type firearm shouldn’t be available to private citizens
  43. Low-income Blacks vote less frequently
  44. Importance of Homeownership
  45. Sense of Community: Whose You Are
  46. Reinstitute Shame
  47. Coastal liberals don’t respect or appreciate the Heartland
  48. Can’t Win elections in cities alone
  49. Big Pharma vs. Legal Weed
  50. You can’t save people from themselves

You can’t blame Project Logic Ga if America goes to hell in a hand basket.  After 600 blog posts, I spent a year writing the Best Interests Initiative which outlines what we can do to improve with limited governmental involvement.   Then, we created OPEN 20/20 to plan discussions in 20 Georgia communities with 20 key grassroots leaders.  To have those meetups with “Unallowable” on the table would be refreshing.   Bob Seger wrote “Against the Wind” and he also pinned “Turn The Page.”  We really need to turn the page as a nation.

HollywoodHell

An anachronism is defined as a thing belonging or appropriate to a period other than that in which it exists, especially a thing that is conspicuously old-fashioned.  At Worth County High School, we were taught that William Shakespeare, the Bard, was wrong to put clocks in Julius Caesar or have Caesar say “Jesus Christ, these fool stabbed me” when Caesar lived before Christ.   Ok, I am paraphrasing.

In the military movie Heartbreak Ridge, the young Annapolis  grad Major calls Gunnery Sergeant Highway, played by Clint Eastwood, an anachronism to the modern Marine Corps.  But in the heat of battle, you need those oldheads….wait, us oldheads.  The Tea Party on the Right and the Progressives on the Left might need to watch this old film.

Hollywood, like every part of life, had a way of doing things back in the day….sometimes right and sometimes wrong.  Harvey Weinstein is an anachronism of the film industry.  We would be here all day talking about those nasty old school dudes of the Black and White era.  But, we should make a distinction between sexy cats who the ladies were all over like Ronald Reagan and trolls who used power and influence to get sex from those trying to get a head.  Of course, some of those young starlets got off the bus from the Midwest with plans to make it come hell or high water… by any means necessary.  No one should ever ever be attacked.  Period.

In some ways, official Washington was supposedly like that back in the day and the music industry still is.  Kayne West’s lyrics from his collaboration with Jay-Z on “N-ggas in Paris” must have been Weinstein favorite jam.

She said Ye can we get married at the mall?
I said look you need to crawl ‘fore you ball
Come and meet me in the bathroom stall
And show me why you deserve to have it all
Ball so hard
That sh-t cray (that sh-t cray), ain’t it Jay?

It’s silly season to say Democrats are connected to Weinstein’s actions if they didn’t know.  Didn’t Republicans just elect a guy president over quality candidates and they were fully aware of his long history.

Learn A Trade..Stay Paid

Sunday Morning on CBS recently had a segment on the lack of workers in the construction trades.  It’s worth watching because evidently too many young people feel they are too good to do dirty work…manly work.  But, they can ask the government to feed their kids with taxpayers’ dollars.

Hogwash.  Oh, you can’t ask them to actually wash a hog, pick crops or do any of the jobs that traditionally go to unskilled workers.  However, they don’t want to put in the time to become skilled tradesmen or the academic effort to attend college and become a white collar office person.  If the same folks blow off military service, I am out of legal money-making options.  But, these are the same nitwits who want to drive a 60k car by 20 years old.  I have a bad feeling about half of America’s next generation and I hope I am wrong.

My friend Mr. Greene and I built my shed.  I love my shed and every tool in it because my daddy taught me the trades and agriculture.  Actually, he had my brother and me doing grown man work on family rental houses way too early.  My nephews need to learn how to cook and clean better than any women to impress smart, attractive women after college.  These good brothers are learning the construction trades to keep a watchful eye on contractors and to do much of home improvement themselves in the future.

20171002_092951 (1)

So, the Sunday Morning segment says that America doesn’t have enough tradesmen to repair hurricane damaged communities.  Oh boy, supply and demand dictates that pay for these projects will be crazy high.  Actually, an enterprising student can graduate high school with much of their vocational school credits and start making money in a year.  But, the homies on the corners want to get rich quickly…the fast way…. Ski mask way.  Once you are in the penal system you will be mopping for pennies an hour but nobody can tell you anything.

You can’t be a dummy in the trades because it’s all math, chemistry, physics, biology, etc.  Also, you need to know computers, logistics and proper communication.   Being clean cut with clean urine gets you in the door.

America is the land of opportunity for the smart but the rest of the world is hot on our heels.  We can’t stay number 1 refighting the Civil War and I have a feeling the Japanese are quietly sabotaging our young with video games.  Our kids prepare for battle with gaming controllers while other kids are grinding in STEM subjects.

georgia-govorner-election-1495821823-feature-hero

We should look at the political situation in Georgia by the numbers…my numbers.  Of course, the two Staceys –Stacey Abrams and Stacey Evans would be the first two numbers and all other numbers are relative to them.

Point #1:  Stacey Abrams is positioned to win the Georgia Democratic primary for Governor because Whites exited the party for the GOP.  Most Georgia Democrats are Black voters but that doesn’t or shouldn’t mean that they would vote for a Black candidate simply because she is highly qualified and looks like them.  Other points and factors need to be taken into consideration…primarily endgame.

Point #2: Stacey Evans stands a better chance of actually winning the general election.  An Abrams victory in November would require turning out Black and progressive voters in historic numbers.  Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton didn’t get the Black numbers Abrams would need to win without a certain percentage of the Non-Atlanta vote.  Ms. Abrams strong statement about sandblasting the Confederate memorial off Stone Mountain means that working class Whites who once voted for Dems as labor union members won’t be voting for her.

Point #3: We have three Georgias.. Metro Atlanta; the five Other Cities (Augusta, Savannah, Macon, Columbus and Albany); and Rural Georgia.  At this point, the battle for Georgia starts to feel like the American Civil War..the classic oxymoron.  In the War Between the States, the North had superior numbers but the South had farm boys that grew up hunting and killing outdoors…better troops.   Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power” opened with a 1967 quote from Thomas “TNT” Todd that stated “Yet our best trained, best educated, best prepared troops refuse to fight! Matter of fact, it’s safe to say that they would rather switch than fight!”

Blacks in the South have the numbers on paper to change everything politically on the local, state and national levels.  For some strange reason, the segment of the community most affected by public policy refuses to vote.  Middle class Blacks are growing weary of fighting political battles for them.  The matter is exacerbated by the opinion that certain Blacks aren’t striving for success…that the hip hop culture has inadvertently perverted the Black American dream.

Point #4: The “Head of the Snake” theory created by this writer is that a snake can be six feet long but without it’s head, the rest can do nothing.  Actually, this idea relative to Blacks comes from Dr. W.E.B. DuBois’ s Talented Tenth.  What would happen to southern Black voting power if the most successful quarter of Black voters functioned as a separate unit?  Of course, we would still care about all southerners of every race but could tip the scales of elections in either major party.

Point #5: Endgame.  The ultimate goal isn’t success for a political party or race.  The goal is forming a more perfect union… a union that started on the corrupt foundation of human bondage.  The more direct endgame is wrestling control of the White House from the scary segment of the Republican Party.  The Public Enemy quote above ended with “they rather switch than fight.” In 1967, Todd was referring to assimilation of Blacks with Whites.  Today, we are at a cultural crossroads..many Blacks are put-off by the criminal element of our race; some Whites are just learning about the meth-loving element of theirs.

At the end of the day, it all comes back to the lyrics from the Police’s song “One World (Not Three).”

“I don’t want to bring a sour note

Remember this before you vote

We can all sink or we all float

‘Cause we’re all in the same big boat.”

Georgia is a big boat and our next generation of leaders needs to be about the business of more jobs, better education, growing the economy and competing in a global market.  A focus and prepared labor force are vital and international businesses want to locate in a place without ongoing historic drama.  How in the world is the head of Germany the leader of the free world rather than the president of the U.S.A.?

Point #6: Post-election Staceys:  The political blogging community thinks Stacey Abrams is destine for national fame—this contest and the governorship are stepping stones.  Some wonder if she could be congresswoman after Rep. John Lewis retires but I think that is small potatoes for her.  Abrams will be the head of the D.N.C., national leader of the Progressive Movement or host her own MSNBC show in the future.  On the other hand, Evans won’t leave Georgia for D.C. because she is a mom.  Remember, members of the General Assembly with children normally seek higher offices in Atlanta because flying home from Congress on the weekend is rough on parenting.  After public office, Evans will likely land in a Georgia based international law firm…balling on the next level.

Point #7: The Elephant In the Room:  Since Georgia is a red state for now, the next Governor might be decided in the GOP primary with little involvement from the Black community.  However, the abovementioned most successful quarter of Black voters could tip the GOP primary to the most reasonable Republican candidate…if there is such a thing.

We need to discuss these points now on the grassroots level.

While the Trump Movement (Tea Party) is taking over the Republican Party and the liberal Progressives are doing the same to the Democrats, my sensible center of the political spectrum stands idly by.  What is a moderate Blue Dog Democrat to do at this crossroad?

Remember, this time last year, we were saying that Trump could actually win the presidency but it wasn’t as important as supporting high school football in my community.  Some of the players on the field last year are unemployed on the street corners this year while others are serving in the military under a questionable president but our community refuses to take 20 minutes to vote—football halftimes last longer.

Every election is important because local elections are the building blocks to state elections and both are the foundations of federal elections.

To me, it’s all about three R’s: resonance, residual and referendum.   In the Georgia governor’s race, candidates Stacey Abrams and Stacey Evans have maybe six months to create a message and mission that resonates with Georgians—who will catch fire with enough voters to win a general election.   We really need a surge of new voters and/or a riptide of Obama-Trump voters.  Yes, a considerable number of voters were with Obama (labor union members) but bounced on Hillary.  To be honest, getting those blue collar voters back seems more possible than getting grown folks to vote for the first time.

If the Obamas and Clintons couldn’t get you to vote, you can’t be reached and deserve Trump’s peculiar policies, statements and actions.

Elections have residual benefits.  Local elections produce campaign networks that are used in contests for higher offices.  I remember when the Democrats had strong candidates for mayor, city council, county commission, state representatives and state senators.   Candidates for U.S. congressman, U.S. senator and president stood on their shoulders.  Real talk: the Georgia governor’s race is important because it has the residual benefit of driving other elections on the ballot and vice versa; and the 2020 presidential race could come down to the Democrat nominee benefiting from the 2018 Georgia governor race network and field-tested message.

Another form of residual benefit is the fact that candidates for high office who don’t win position themselves well for other endeavors.   What happen to Sarah Palin, Herman Cain and Michelle Nunn? They got crazy paid.  Former Congressman Jack Kingston was defeated in a U.S. Senate race but is on CNN nightly.  Don Lemon recently told Kingston that his profile on-air is his greatest stage for change.   So, some of these candidates for high office have a side eye on Buckhead offices, Georgetown/D.C. firms or a hosting desk on MSNBC.  Can you blame them?

Since he walked onto the national stage, the Republicans have made every election on every level a referendum on Barack Obama.  Well, turnabout is fair play.  A test of any candidate’s soundness could be if Obama or Trump was/is good for America and Georgia.  To me, if you think Trump is a capable leader, you have issues and are in my prayers…as is he.  Remember, local and state officeholders work on issues and problems with Congress and the White House.

Obama is a good man; one of the best in American history.  President Trump functions on the opposite end of the moral spectrum.  Trump is a marketing expert and a master of branding but not suitable for bringing a nation together.  If you are running for dogcatcher in Ty Ty, Georgia, the voters should ask your opinion on Trump because agriculture is the biggest industry in Ty Ty and in Georgia and Trump wants to cut many of the programs at USDA.

The presidential race of 2020 starts with building blocks in 2017 and 2018.  Every political segment should be at the table but the progressives and Trump people seem to have little interest in the sensible center.  Newsflash: the center is larger than those two groups combine and could sway the Republican or Democrat primaries.  The longer term objective of the three R’s mentioned above is having someone other than Trump win the White House in 2020.

More than football and hip hop, we must develop an understanding of politics and governing.  It’s a matter of life and death.  First, I am not angry at President Trump for being exactly who he said he would be nor am I ticked off at Republican voters for using him to keep Hillary Clinton out of the White House.  I am overwhelmingly pissed at my community for not voting in five or six pivotal states.

Oh, non-voting Blacks escorted Trump into the White House and handed him the nuclear codes.   Our Black –sses will be the first ones drafted into an ego-driven Trump war.  Being drafted by your nation puts you in an awkward situation.   My brother was in the Vietnam War while we weren’t allowed to swim in the local pool or check out books from the library—for the record, he volunteered.

We know that the victor writes history and I have fairly felt that the South in the American Civil War was the most dangerous threat to the United States—more than any power from Europe, Asia or the Middle East in history.  But, I don’t put military personal in the same category as political leaders normally (notable exception being Nazis.)

To me, General Robert E. Lee was a gentleman who strategized for a wrong cause.  Remember, Lincoln offered him command of the Army of the Potomac but his heart was with Virginia.  So, if we are talking about military skills, Robert E. Lee, World War II German General Erwin Rommel and William T. Sherman get military praise.  On the other hand, I am glad Lee and Rommel were on defeated sides and Sherman was so nasty to former slaves during his March to the Sea.  Confederate Lt. General Nathan Bedford Forrest was brilliant on the battlefield but helped found the Klan after the war.  Why do Black guys play football with Jeff Davis County High in Georgia?

Spending 25 years in military service could have been a great career for me but I wasn’t prepared to hear who the president or pentagon saw as the enemy—not while Mandela sat in a cell.  Much of America’s military focus was and is based on the financial interests of fat cats.  America never respected self-governing in Africa or the oil-rich Middle East.  There are some people with legitimate reasons to dislike us but terrorism isn’t the answer.  Blacks in south Georgia see the Klan as more of a concern than the ISIS.  Oh yea, why do we get upset when folks in the Middle East try to have a faith-based government but the conservatives in America seek to do the same thing with our Christian faith.

It never crossed White southerners’ minds that items honoring the Confederacy would be hella offensive to the Black population…the same Black population who built the South for free. But, I say don’t remove anything nor level any Nazi concentration camps…lest we forget.  I am writing this blog post on Lee Street in a small southern town and the street wasn’t name for Bruce Lee.  Finally, Dr. Martin Luther King is turning over in his grave about the trashy ways we carry ourselves on streets name for him…where the good weed can be scored.

To this day, I think Donald Trump is a world class opportunist who never imagined actually winning the White House (which brings forensic examination of his shady business dealings.)  But, his followers on the far Right knew what “take this nation back” meant to them.  They should hug him tightly and not let him go.  Normal Republicans have a few months to figure out how to remove him from their ranks…and when they try, it’s going to be on and popping.

Sociology: Not Politics

sociology_wordle

Sociology and not politics should be the discussion topic first.  With secondary consideration for elected officeholders on all levels, how we function as a society and or as a culture is much more significant.  Sociology is the study of the development, structure and functioning of human society.

America is a free society and you can make several puns from that statement.  Yes, a citizen is free to select a line of work and decide when and with whom to have children.  However, the consequences of those decisions can affect employability and employability affects the ability to care for children…innocent children.  When blue-collar workers go on break, lazy rascals who are too cool to work for minimum wage is a popular topic of discussion. “….and we get taxed to feed their kids while they sit around smoking and playing video games….looking for a free check.”

In my subculture, you want to help someone who listens, is cautious and doing their best to help themselves.  Democrats support policies that provide opportunities (leveling the playing field) for working class families and that is cool.  But, those who are shady, who love struggling and who don’t even vote are getting less sympathy from me.

We can’t continue as a society that constantly looks to mayors, governors and presidents to dramatically fix what we broke in our lives.  Congressmen and senators didn’t force you to be silly in school while others applied themselves.  The police didn’t persuade you to live a life of crime.

I am a moderate/centrist Democrat who would love to hear a candidate say that officeholders are limited in their roles and missions.  The political system is broken because our society is broken.  Everyone is a victim but the real culprit is in the mirror.  We need to spend this year listening to innovative social scientists and brace ourselves for their solutions because the truth hurts.

Hillbilly Elegy is a good read for those interested in understanding rural people.  I have always thought words like Hillbilly and Ghetto can only be used as terms of endearment by members of those groups.  Attorney and author J.D. Vance gave us a fascinating look into life in Appalachia.  For me, the parallels to the Black community in rural Georgia are: Hillbilly=Ghetto; Holler=Hood; Hew Haw=Good Times.

We all know rich kids who crumble at the first problem in adulthood but not J.D. from the holler and not the folks from the hood who stayed positive.  Hillbilly Elegy feels like Boyz in the Hood to me.  At the end of that movie Tre and Brandi left south Central Los Angeles for Morehouse College and Spelman College in Atlanta.  They were better prepared for college and corporate America than bougie classmates that grew up with money because they had that “seasoning” J.D. also had.  On a recent episode of OWN’s Queen Sugar, a nice, rich Black teen Micah was arrested for simply driving while Black; he wet himself in the local jail.  Prep school and millions didn’t teach him want we knew.

Of course, we want all children to have safe, nurturing environments.  Surprisingly, the old segregated Black community was striving and culturally rich.  This blog often complains that the inmates are running the asylum today; thugs and thug elements are glamorized over clean living in our community.

Some of my friends are concerned that the Black elite selected as leaders simply aren’t familiar with the struggle of every aspect of Black life.  Once and for all, we are happy that we have generations after generations of Blacks with higher education and wealth.  Those people and liberal Whites from New England aren’t necessarily suited to understand the plight of the hood or the holler (holler is a corruption of hollow as in Sleepy Hollow.)  Every Black person doesn’t have knowledge of  welfare, the penal system and Section 8 housing.

Blacks and Whites who are living right often have disdain for those who can’t or won’t break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness.

Georgia’s most famous Hillbilly might be former Governor and U.S. Senator Zell Miller.  Like J.D. Vance, Miller tested his mettle in boot camp on Paris Island, South Carolina. He wrote a book called “Corps Values” in which he said everything he needed to know about life, he learned in the Marine Corps.  Miller says, “The first thing you do when you find yourself in a hole is stop digging.”

In summary, J.D. Vance’s hard youth seems like Joseph from the Bible who was sold by his brothers into slavery but rose to wealth in Egypt.  Genesis 50:20 “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”  When Joseph told Pharaoh there would be seven years of plenty then seven years of famine, the sage advice seem like J.D.’s steelworking Papaw’s wisdom.  The Rust Belt and the South saw many high school graduates earning great wages but felling to spend wisely and save.

Vance’s life from the holler to Yale Law could make him the next Obama; you must buy his book.  He should help answer this question: How much energy and resources should society and the government spend on people who insist on pulling themselves down?   That question looms over the Georgia governor’s race in 2018 and the presidential race of 2020.  What shall become of the hood and the holler?

Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of A Family and Culture in Crisis

  1. p. 4 While reality permits some degree of cynicism, the fact that hillbillies like me are more down about the future than many other groups- some of whom are clearly more destitute than we are suggests that something else is going on.
  2. p. 127 As a teacher at my high school told me recently, “They want us to be sheperds to these kids. But no one wants to talk about the fact that many of them are raised by wolves.”
  3. p. 138 Working as a cashier turned me into an amateur sociologist.
  4. p. 139 I could never understand why our lives felt like a struggle while those living off of government largesse enjoyed trinkets that I only dreamed about.
  5. p. 139 At least as often,, our drug-addict neighbor would buy T-bone steaks, which I was too poor to buy for myself but was forced by Uncle Sam to buy for someone else.
  6. p. 140 …it was my first indication that the policies of Mamaw’s “party of the working man” – the Democrats – weren’t all they were cracked up to be.
  7. p. 144 William Julius Wilson’s “The Truly Disadvantaged” : As millions migrated north to factory jobs, the communities sprouted up around those factories were vibrant but fragile: When the factories shut their doors, the people left behind were trapped in towns and cities that could no longer support such large populations with high-quality work. Those who could – generally the well-educated, wealthy, or well connected – left, leaving behind communities of poor people. The same was true of Charles Murray’s seminal Losing Ground, another book about black folks that could have been written about hillbillies – which addressed the way our government encouraged social decay through the welfare state.144 It would be years before I learned that no single book, or expert, or field could explain the problems of hillbillies in modern America. Our elegy is a sociological one, yes, but it is also about psychology and community and culture and faith.
  8. p. 147 We don’t study as children, ands we don’t make our kids study when we’re parents. We might get angry with them, but we never give them the tools – like peace and quiet at home- to succeed. “I don’t care if you got into Notre Dame,” we say, “You can get a fine, cheap education at the community college.” The irony is that for poor people like us, an education at Notre Dame is both cheaper and fine.
  9. p. 150 Consider my life before I moved in with Mamaw. In the middle of the third grade, we left Middletown….’
  10. p. 177 I’m not saying ability doesn’t matter. It certainly helps. But, there’s something powerful about realizing that you’ve undersold yourself- that somehow your mind confused lack of effort for inability.
  11. p. 191 But the president feels like an alien to many Middletonians for reasons that have nothing to do with skin color. Recall that not a single one of my high school classmates attended an Ivy League school. Barrack Obama attended two of them and excelled at both.  Nothing about him bears any resemblance to the people I admired growing up: His accent – clean, perfect, neutral- is foreign; his credentials are so impressive that they’re frightening.
  12. p. 192 With little trust in the press, there’s no check on the Internet conspiracy theories that rule the digital world.
  13. p.193 If you believe that hard work pays off, then you work hard; if you think it’s hard to get ahead even when you try, then why try at all?
  14. p. 194 There is a cultural movement in the White working class to blame problems on society or the government, and that movement gains adherents by the day.
  15. p. 214 Social capital: The network of people and institutions around us have real economic value.
  16. p. 226 Adverse childhood experiences or ACEs are traumatic childhood events, and their consequences reach far into adulthood.
  17. p. 228 By almost any measure, American working-class families experience a level of instability unseen elsewhere in the world.
  18. p. 231 How much of our lives, good and bad, should we credit to our personal decisions, and how much is just the inheritance of our culture, our families, and our parents who have failed their children? How much is Mom’s life her own fault? Where does blame stop and sympathy begin?
  19. p. 242 In places like Utah, Oklahoma, and Massachusetts, the American Dream was doing just fine – as good or better than any place in the world. It was in the South, the Rust Belt, and Appalachia where poor kids really struggled.
  20. p. 244 These programs are far from perfect, but to the degree that I nearly succumbed to my worst decisions (and I came quite close), the fault lies almost entirely with factors outside the government’s control.
  21. p. 245 But, it was there, and studies now show that working-class boys like me do much worse in school because they view schoolwork as a feminine endeavor.
  22. p. 254 People like Brian and me don’t lose contact with our parents because we don’t care; we lose contact with them to survive. We never stop loving, and we never lost hope that our loved ones will change. Rather, we are forced, either by wisdom or by the law, to take the path of self-preservation.

Campaigning and governing requires putting policies and situations in terms people can understand.  The policy wonks and campaign advisors on Capitol Hill and in Buckhead aren’t about is life in  “G. A. red clay.”  I have a few popular culture references to explain what’s what.

In the Geto Boys’ hit “My Mind Playing Tricks On Me,” Willie D said “Or is it the one I beat for five thousand dollars.  Thought he had caine but it was Gold Medal flour.” While I am no lawyer and intent is different in different states, Donald Trump Jr. thought he was about to getg dirt from a foreign government that could change the election….intent like thinking you purchased cocaine but got flour.  You tried to do something very wrong if not illegal.  If Watergate and Bill Clinton’s drama was a pebble, this mess is a basketball sized rock.

“I make big money. I drive big cars.  Everybody know me. It’s like I’m a movie star.”  President Ronald Reagan was a movie star turned governor but we shouldn’t forget that he was head of the Screen Actors Guild, a big union.  The Trumps thought making a lateral move from the private sector to public sector fame would be simple.  Running for office is like a Madison Avenue marketing campaign but actually governing with 300 million bosses is something else.

This nation owes a collective apology to Jeb Bush.  Donald Trump saw seeking and maybe being president as another project.  Jeb knew how hard being in high office was from watching his family to being governor of a big, diverse state.  Jeb said that he wouldn’t run if it required the sneakiness and lies that basically Trump used.  And may I say, the Black community will never support Trump because of his dirty treatment of Obama and will never support anyone for any office who thinks or thought he is presidential material.

Between a Transformer movie and the Terminator franchise, characters that can morph into something else puts me in the mind of some politicians.  Yea, these Decepticons run for office under one flag and switch.  The current Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue was a Democrat a few years before he switched to the GOP and became governor of Georgia.  Nathan Deal is the governor now but was a moderate Democrat congressman.

Shakespeare wrote “what’s in a name, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”  Matthew 7:15-20 spoke of false prophets, ravening wolves in sheep’s clothing.  You will know good leaders by the fruits they bear because a corrupt tree can’t produce good fruit.

The skill set that got the Trumps rich disqualifies them to run the White House.  It’s the White House..not the oligarch-run Kremlin.

The mid-term elections of 2018 will be the first step for Republicans and Democrats in getting back to a normal government.  Regular Republicans are having second thoughts and some folks are discovering that deep federal cuts will hit them hard.  Their minds are playing tricks on them.

Obama and Hillary Clinton were about a strong defense but when possible soft power—using goodwill and temporary foreign assistance to help nations help themselves.  The Geto Boys sang “I live by the sword. I take my boys everywhere I go, because I’m paranoid. I keep lookin’ over my shoulder and peepin’ around corners.  My mind is playin’ tricks on me.”

That sounds like Trump, his sons and son in law to me (Ivanka is cool because she is down with Chelsea Clinton).   Trump and North Korea’s Kim live by the sword but Isaiah 2:4 spoke of beating swords into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks—learning war  no more.

Scriptures and southern sayings do more for you than the government.  The roles of the federal and state governments need to be reexamined during this non-election year.   My idea is that the best life doesn’t depend on what governmental officials do and we need to hear some of them say that.

Free Milk and a Cow: The Georgia Satellites use this saying as the central theme in their hit “Keep Your Hands to Yourself.”  Beyoncé sang something similar in “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It.)”  Grandmothers once taught girls to hold “the cookie” hostage until a young gentleman (literally a gentle man) presented a long term, whole life package that included caring for future children.  America will always provide a little temporary food assistance to needy families but the government is not now nor should it be your baby’s daddy for 18 years.

2 Thessalonians 3:10-15: Paul broke that thing down in this letter.  “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.  For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all but are busybodies.  Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work and eat their own bread.  But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

And if any man obeys not our word by this epistle, note that man and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet, could him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

Society wants to help the needy but how do we have young parents who are too cool to flip burgers and toss watermelons.  But, you love your kids so much.  Hogwash.  We grew up with parents who had a job and a side job.  Paul’s “Disorderly” would be current thugs but Democrats shouldn’t consider them as the enemy…just brothers who never learned the right way.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime: You help those who help themselves.  Unfortunately, we have a large number of half-raised people in this country.  Georgia Governor Nathan Deal was surprised to discover the amount of money our state spends on corrections.  I love calling the prison system “corrections” because that is what it is.  If a fraction of that money could have been spent on better college, technical schools and K-12, we would need less funding for corrections and have fewer crime victims.

Know who you are and whose you are: Back in the day, our community had pride.  You represented yourself, your family, your community, your race and your church in everything you did.  In his first book, Secretary Colin Powell wrote that we need to bring the concept of shame back in America and I agree.  If your kids are hungry but you won’t pick tomatoes as a job, you should be ashamed.  If that same person plays Xbox all day, he should be ashamed.  If you sell dope on the corner which poisons the community and creates a violent illegal commerce, shame on you.

Look, the American way should be an equal opportunity at success for everyone..a fair shot. If you blow off your shot with your actions (playing in school, disrespecting your family, being lazy), you are messing up an opportunity slaves and sharecroppers would have died to have.

They did die to have the right to vote but too many people in our community blow off voting.  Wait a second..the same young people getting temporary assistance don’t vote. Amazing.  The Trump Presidency is reality and  his plan is simple: Reduce government assistance to needy people, they can do the work currently done by illegals…the work Americans won’t do.

Black Lives Matter: Okay, I always thought this movement should have been Black Lives Matter Also but what do I know.  It’s not saying that other lives don’t matter..they do.  As a southern moderate, I find the progressive movement to be a little aggressive with the whole “what government did and what corporate America did” thing.  But, I was hyped to see a You Tube video say Black Lives should matter to Black people.

Yes, sir..there it is right there.  Jesus said one of the two greatest commandments was love your neighbor as yourself but you don’t love yourself.   If we took care of our community, the government would be secondary…”defend the borders and deliver the mail” is one more southern saying.

Oh, liberals don’t want to read this blog’s year-long treatise the Best Interests Initiative.

The term “thinning the herd” comes to mind when I think about the private discussions ultra conservatives have regarding public health and ethics.  It’s messy business to mix our faith beliefs and mores with the public policy of a diverse nation and world.

In ranching, you evaluate your cattle to determine which ones will make it and you make hard decisions about the rest.  For humans, applying this concept is similar to Darwinian evolutionary theory or Survival of the Fittest.  The best America to me would be one in which everyone has a fair shot at a nice life.  Conversely, those who don’t grind hard or make poor decisions will deal with the consequences.  Of course, we could break out Jesus teachings on caring for the poor…your brethren.

In the 1980s, I had a feeling that some hardcore conservatives saw AIDS and Crack as thinning the herd.  Today, we are in the middle of a healthcare debate and Crack is replaced by opioids addiction.  When President Obama was trying to provide healthcare for as many people as possible, some thought “let the uninsured die”….thinning the herd.

Oh, they voted for Trump to Make America Great Again…more like Make America Hate Again.  With all of her issues and warts, America is now and has always been great.

But, wait.  President Trump breaks out a budget and some folks are surprise that they too have been eating at the public trough.  “Yea, lock up the crackhead and toss away the key in the 80s but this new drug has hit my family in the heartland…time for government funded treatment.”  We should pray that everyone breaks the chains of addiction.

Regarding abortion choice, the Clintons, the Obamas and I think abortions should be safe, legal and very rare.  Obviously, they are rare if fewer unwanted pregnancies occurred in the first place and I personally hope that people would explore options as early as possible.  But, it’s hard to impose your faith’s views on the nation as a whole.  If the founding fathers wanted to declare Christianity as the official religion of this nation, they would have.

The same people who are against early abortions support zero assistance to poor “born” babies and children.  They aren’t pro-life; they are just pro-birth.  If you are deep enough to conceptualize your unborn children, you should be compassionate enough toward them to have them when you can afford them.  If you never have the money or proper situation, you never have children.  I don’t know the answers.  To me, heaven sent every baby on earth down here but I also see people and think “that person needs a baby like a fish needs a bicycle.”

We need single-payer, universal coverage healthcare in America.  Look, the uninsured use the emergency room as a doctor’s office.  They wait until an easily treated issue becomes an expensive matter… $100 to $100,000 and the government still gets the bill.

I am also guilty of a little “thinning the herd” mentality.  My favorite blog post was “Fat On Food Stamps” because how did you get fat on public assistance.  Okay, I am over simplifying the situation but we need doctors to sound the alarm during annual physicals.  And if someone insist on unhealthy behavior, they dug their own grave… my goodness, I am a conservative Democrat.  I hope the progressives don’t thin the Democrat herd of me.

Georgia is the Empire state of the South and our next governor will help define the next version of the New South.  A region that is busy hating and a fighting family can’t strive in the global economy.  During the turbulent Civil Rights era, Atlanta was known as the city too busy to hate.

As a moderate Democrat, hate isn’t an everyday part of my life; the same can be said for most of my Republican and Democrat friends.  But, politics and elections have been poisoned by marketing.  I recently introduced a smart friend to Dr. Frank Luntz, game changer.  Dr. Luntz got in the lab for Newt Gingrich and cooked up the 10 points in the Contract With America in the early 90s.  With control groups and testing, he discovered the hot button issues Newt use to move millions of Bill Clinton supporters from the Blue Team to the Red Team.

So, a Phd from Madison Avenue used marketing to move Main Street America for Wall Street.  The 10 points were brilliantly selected.   The issues made rural blood boil but fostered division for political gain.

Yesterday over the phone, I told the dean of grassroots politics in South Georgia that the Dems need to light a fuse with Stacey Abrams, Stacey Evans or Stacy Adams.  Can Stacy Abrams add new voters in record numbers and get them to vote the whole ballot for years?  Can Stacey Evans marry core Democrat issues with working class voters’ kitchen table concerns?  As the Bible says, iron sharpens iron.  A healthy primary between these two smart women could be like Hillary and Obama.

Who or what is Stacy Adams?  If you asked that question, you don’t know the sensible center of the South.  Stacy Adams is a brand of kidskin men dress shoes.  When men dress as gentlemen for church on Sunday and relaxing on Saturday, this was their shoe.  Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio says Democrats need voters who shower after work as well as those who shower before work.  I love his thinking.

I never wore those hard bottom Stacies because the comfort of Bass Weejuns and Rockports better served me.  However, my daddy swore by his classic Black lace-ups for decades.  Morris Day and the Time floated across the floor in Purple Rain in Stacy Adams.

As kids, we learned community commitment and Black honor in Nether’s Barber Shop in Sylvester, Georgia.  Men with steel in their backs would walk in with laundry pressed khakis, tucked-in golf shirts and polished Stacy Adams…smelling of Aqua Velva and confidence.  These men worked hard during the week—making someone else rich.  On our side of the railroad tracks, they were respected and we listened to every word of knowledge and wisdom.  Some men would wear Stacies with new overalls and of course, the shoes were popular with White southerners as well.

The kids today kill me with these soccer flip flops and socks…girls in house shoes at Walmart.  They are called “house” shoes for a reason.  I don’t understand how a young person owns three pairs of $200 Jordans, no car and wear God knows what to grandad’s funeral…oh, they rather walk than drive a $1000 car and wear Walmart sneakers.  In that coffin, grandad is wearing Stacy Adams and those grandkids would be much better if they had put down those phones and controllers listened to him.  Can you imagine kids fishing with Pa Pa….getting mud on their J’s.

For Stacey Evans and Stacey Abrams, getting key rural voters energized starts with their supporters having a comfort level in beauty and barber shops from Toccoa to Thomasville.  The old native American quote says never criticize a man until you’ve walked a mile in his moccasins… or Stacy Adams, Timberlands, Jordans, Georgia Work Boots, flip flops etc.  The GOP, using Dr. Frank Luntz marketing techniques, would have you think that all Democrats are urban thugs seeking a free ride or latte-sipping liberals.  The grassroots guru told me yesterday that Georgia actually has more people who identify as Democrats than Republicans.  However, Republicans vote every election without fail.  Nationally, the Democrats won’t win if we can’t get those helped by our policies to the polls.

I put together my regular guy’s favorite Bible verses in three forms: long form, highlight outline list and documents.  It’s like Cliff Notes for sinners and saints.  This post will also be a new permanent page.

Ted’s Bible List

Ted’s Bible List2

Genesis

4: 9, 13  Keeper                 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?  And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

9: 20-27 Ham/Canaan     And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 21  And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 22  And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. 23  And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness. 24  And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. 25  And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. 26  And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. 27  God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

17:20 Ismael       And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

50:20 Good         But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Exodus

20:1-17 Ten Commandments    1  And God spake all these words, saying, 2  I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage3  Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4  Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. 7  Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. 8  Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9  Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10  But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11  For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

12  Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 13  Thou shalt not kill. 14  Thou shalt not commit adultery. 15  Thou shalt not steal. 16  Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 17  Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

Deuteronomy

15:11 Poor           For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

Joshua

24:15 My House                And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

1 Chronicles

16:22 Touch        Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

2 Chronicles

7:14 My People                 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Psalms

1:1 Blessed         Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

23 Shepherd      The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

27: 1-4, 10, 14 Afraid       The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2  When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. 3  Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. 4  One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.  10  When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.  14  Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

30:3 Pit                                 O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

34: 6-7, 10 Lion                  6  This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. 7  The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.  10  The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

34:17 Cry                              The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

37: 1-4, 7-8 Fret                 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 2  For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. 3  Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4  Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.  7  Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. 8  Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

37: 24-25, 39 Old               24  Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand. 25  I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.  39  But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

40: 1-3 Wait        I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. 2  He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. 3  And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

41: 1-2 Blessed                 Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. 2  The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.

51: 10-12 Clean                  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11  Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 12  Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

55: 22 Cast           Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

82: 2-4 Unjustly                 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. 3  Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. 4  Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

85:10 Mercy       Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

109:2 Lying          For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

118: 5-6, 9 Distress           I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. 6  The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?  9  It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

121: 1-8 Lift up/Keeper                  I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2  My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. 3  He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4  Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5  The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. 6  The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. 7  The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. 8  The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

131: 1 Too High                  LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

133:1 Good/Pleasant      Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Proverbs

3:5-7  Trust          Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

4:14-17 Wicked                 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. 15  Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. 16  For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. 17  For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

6: 16 Seven         These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17  A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18  An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19  A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

13:4 Fat                The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

13:20 Wise          He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

14:29 Wrath        He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

16: 7-8 Peace     When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.  8  Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.  9  A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

17:22 Medicine                                 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

19:1 Poor             Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

19:20 Counsel                    Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

20:1,4 Wine                        Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.  4  The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

20:13 Sleep                         Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

21: 19,23 Wilderness       It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.  Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

22; 1-3,6 Name/Child      A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. 2  The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all. 3  A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.  6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

22: 24-25 Angry Man       Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: 25  Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

23: 12 Knowledge            Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

24:17-20 Enemy                Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: 18  Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him. 19  Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked; 20  For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

27: 1-2, 12, 17 Boast        Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.  2  Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.  12  A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.  17  Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

29:18 Vision                        Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

31:10, 30-31 Woman       Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.  30  Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. 31  Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Ecclesiastes

3:1-8, 13 Time                   To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2  A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;  3  A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4  A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5  A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6  A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;  7  A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8  A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. 13  And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

7:1 Good Name                A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

12:13-14 Whole Matter                 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Isaiah

1: 17-20 Reason                17  Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. 18  Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. 19  If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: 20  But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

2:4 Nations                         And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

10:27 Yoke                          And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

40: 28-31 Wings Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. 29  He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30  Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

43:2 Waters                        When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Jeremiah

29:11-12 Thoughts                           For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. 12  Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

Habakkuk

2:2-3 Tables                        And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. 3  For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Zechariah

4:6 Spirit                               Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

8: 16-17 Things                  These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates: 17  And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.

Matthew

5:1-12 Beatitudes             And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2  And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, 3  Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4  Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7  Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8  Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. 9  Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. 10  Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

5: 15-16 Light                      Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

5: 43-45 Enemy                 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45  That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

6: 9-13 Lord’s Prayer       After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11  Give us this day our daily bread. 12  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

6:19-21 Treasure              Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22  The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

6: 25-32 Wealth                 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26  Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27  Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28  And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29  And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30  Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31  Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

6:33-34  Seek                     But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34  Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

7:7-8 Knock                         Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

7: 12 Golden Rule             Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

7:13-21 False/Lord, Lord                Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

15  Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16  Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18  A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19  Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.  21  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

9:12-13 Sick                         And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? 12  But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. 13  But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

11:28-30 Yoke                    Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

21:42 Stone                        Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

22:37-40 Greatest            Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38  This is the first and great commandment. 39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

25:20-21 Well Done         And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 21  His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

26:26-28 Supper               And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27  And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

26:41 Weak                      Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Mark

3:24-25 Divided                 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25  And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

8:34-37 Profit                     And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 35  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. 36  For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 37  Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

10:45 Ransom                    For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

12:10-11 Stone                  And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner: 11  This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

12: 29-31 Greatest           And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30  And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31  And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Luke

5:30 Eat/Sinners               But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? 31  And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. 32  I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

6:27-28,31 Likewise         But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, 28  Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.  31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

14:13-14 Poor/Just          But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:  And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

John

3:3-7 Born Again                               Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? 5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

3:16 So Loved                                    For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

14:1-6 Prepare                                  Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2  In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4  And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5  Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts

9:3-6 Saul                             And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4  And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5  And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6  And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

Romans

6:23 Wages                         For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

8:28 Purpose                      And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

8:31 For Us                          What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

8:38-39 Separate              For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

10:9 Confess                      That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

12:1-2 Beseech                                 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

12:16 Same mind              Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

12:18-21 Vengence         If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19  Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20  Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21  Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

13:1-3 Powers                   Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2  Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3  For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

13:12-14 Armor                 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13  Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14  But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

14:11-13 Knee                   For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12  So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. 13  Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.

1st Corinthians

1:10 Divisions                     Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

2:9 Eyes                                But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

13:11,13 Childish/Charity              When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.  13  And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

2nd Corinthians

5:1 Earthly                           For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

5:17 Creature                     Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

6:14 Yoke                             Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15  And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

9:6-7 Giving                        But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 7  Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Galatians

5:16,19-21 Flesh                This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.   19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

6:2-5 Burdens                    Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 3  For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 4  But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5  For every man shall bear his own burden

6:6-10 Sow                          Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. 7  Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8  For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9  And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10  As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Ephesians

4:23-25,29 New Man      And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24  And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. 25  Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.  Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

4:26 Sun               Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

4:32 Kind              And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

6:10-12 Amour                  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Philippians

2:4 Others                                           Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

3:13-14 Forgetting                           Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

4:5 Moderation                                 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

4:6-8 Request/Whatsoever          Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

4:13 Things                          I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Colossians

3:1-2 Above                        If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3:8-9 Put Off                      But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9  Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

3:12-16 Put On                  Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13  Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14  And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

4:6 Speech                          Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

1st Thessalonians

5:14-18 Exhort                   Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. 15  See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.   16  Rejoice evermore. 17  Pray without ceasing. 18  In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

2nd Thessalonians

3:1-2 Unreasonable        Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: 2  And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.

3:10-15 Eat                          For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 11  For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 12  Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. 13  But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. 14  And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. 15  Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

1st Timothy

2:1-2 Peaceable                I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2  For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3:5 House                            Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4  One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5  (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

5:8 Provide                         But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

6:7, 10 Money                   For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 10  For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

6:17-19 Rich                        Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18  That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19  Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

2nd  Timothy

1:7 Spirit of Fear               For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

2:22-23 Flee                        Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23  But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

3:1-7 Perilous                     This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3  Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4  Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6  For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7  Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

4:6-8 Good Fight               For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Hebrews

4:16 Throne                        Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

11:1 Faith                             Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

12:1-2 Compassed           Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

13:5-6 Helper                     Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6  So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

James

1:12 Temptation               Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

1:19-20 Slow                       Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20  For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

2:14,17 Faith/Works        What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?  17  Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

3:17: Wisdom                     But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

3:8-12 Tongue                   But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9  Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10  Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11  Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12  Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

4: 7-12 Submit/Judge     Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9  Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. 11  Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. 12  There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

5:13-16 Afflicted               Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. 14  Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15  And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16  Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

5:19-20 Err                           Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; 20  Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

1st Peter

2:13-14,17 Submit            Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 14  Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.  17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

3:12 Eyes                             For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

3:17 Wisdom                      For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

5:5-8 Humble                     Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6  Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 8  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

2nd Peter

1:5-8 Add                             And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6  And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7  And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8  For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2:10 Walk                             But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

2:21 Better                          For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

3:10 Thief                            But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

1st John

1:5-7 Light                           This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6  If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

1:8 No Sin                            If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

2:15-17 World                    Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

4:20-21 Love, Brother     If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21  And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

2nd John

1:10-11 Doctrine               If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11  For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

3rd John

1:11 Follow                         Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

Jude

1:24-25 Doxology             Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25  To the only wise God, our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

Revelation

1:8 Alpha                             I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

2: 10-11 Prison                   Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. 11  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

3:20-22 Door                      Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

19: 11 Horse                       And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

21:1, 4-8 New, Tears       And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.  4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5  And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6  And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.  8  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

backstabbers

Trump can’t win said the political establishment.  Obama should quietly wait his turn in the Senate said the other establishment.  Bernie Sanders is too disheveled to appeal to young voters.  Clearly this writer isn’t crazy about the so-called establishment; you have blue crabs in a barrel, white crabs, black crabs, red crabs, and brown crabs.

Why are elite groups behind the scenes telling candidates they should or shouldn’t run for office almost a year before filing and nearly a year and a half before the general elections?

Traditionally, candidates would mull over a possible campaign and make a decision with family after thanksgiving dinner.  I say these possible candidates should take it to the people between now and that holiday.  If you really have a message and a path to victory, your vibe will resonate with real people and the necessary fire will be obvious.

In Georgia, three questions need to be answered by candidates for high state office or congress on the Democrat side:

  1. Can you produce better turnout from the base than Obama and Hillary?
  2. Can you expand the base with unregistered citizens?
  3. Can you pull a percentage (say 15%) of working class Whites with an innovative kitchen table platform?

Whoa, that’s a Herculean task that will require divine intervention.  With all due respect to current officeholders and the establishment elite, candidates should test the waters in every section of Georgia to discover if they have the right stuff.

On the presidential level, Ross Perot, Ralph Nader and Bernie Sanders led noble movements that inadvertently put someone in the White House from the other side.

In the Georgia governor and lt. governor races, the eventual Democrat nominees won’t fare well in November if the primary is bloody.  This blog mentioned time and time again how the party elite selected and supported candidates who the actual voters weren’t feeling.  As the Ojay’s sang, you have got to give the people what they want.  Of course, that song was on the Back Stabbers album… I’m just saying.

It’s not rocket science; meet and greet receptions with Motown, Disco and jazz will get people into local eateries.  Candidates or their surrogates get 10 minutes to make their cases. Candidates or their surrogates get 10 minutes to make their cases.

Ice-Cube-Receives-Star-on-Hollywood-Walk-of-Fame-1200x600

Former F.B.I. Director James Comey recently introduced America to the word “memorialize” regarding his memos to himself after meeting with President Trump.  On my deathbed, I will swear that some nerdy polly sci major in the future will come across my blog posts and use the concepts, approaches and ideas to help this lovely nation.  Of course, my banker wishes that would happen now.

Ice Cube just got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in part for writing prophetic hip hop lyrics regarding the powder keg that was inner city L.A.  Well, the sampling of blog post below predicted the current turning point in Georgia and southern politics and offers solutions for what should happen next.

Coalitions win elections.  After primary battles, the party that gets itself together fastest will likely be victorious.  I am still upset that Ralph Nader pulled enough voters from Al Gore to help George Bush win in 2000.  Like Hillary Clinton, Gore won the popular vote but you must have strategy where it matters.

Strategy is a high level plan to achieve one or more goals under conditions of uncertainty.   Remember, at this point in 2016, I was telling everyone who would listen that Donald Trump could win the election by playing opossum (playing dead) as we say in the country.  We let our guard down.

I am getting over my feelings about Bernie Sanders Progressives who didn’t vote for Hillary (…if you had it to do over, grasshopper….).  Yes,  those voters could have been the margin of victory in pivotal states.  I want to take a brief look at coalitions on the Republican and Democrat sides relative to 2012 and 2020.

First of all, the Republican base will obviously vote for whomever their party nominates in any election.  They have been so brainwashed about Democrats until they trust the Russians more than us.  To get to 50%, they motivate some rural people with faith and gun issues.  But, most of the Black folks at my church are veterans who own peacekeeping steel also.  Go figure?

So, will working class Whites stay with the Trump division of the GOP?  Will the Dem Team develop and market a package to entice those voters back?  You can’t win a statewide election in the South without a certain percentage of those voters.  It starts with quality schools, jobs and affordable healthcare.  The awkwardness of the Trump administration from day one has tarnished the Republican brand.  They have some decisions to make.

On the Democrat side in the South, we must understand that Blacks for now are the backbone of the party.  To some, the party feels like a plantation with Whites running everything while Blacks do the heavy lifting.  The strategy for me involves a coalition of everyone….city progressives, moderate rural Blacks and some working class Whites who are about to learn that far Right budget cuts know no color.

Know this: there is a difference between a political party and a movement.  Black Lives Matter, The Tea Party, Occupy Wall Street, Trump’s Make America Great Again and Sander’s Progressives are movements and not subject to political parties.

We need to know now if movements are going to “act right” if parties give them a national stage. Really, they shouldn’t as activist but just say so from jump street.

We are looking at candidates for governor in Georgia for 2018 and even president in 2020.  My friends don’t agree but I believe in asking candidates how they feel about candidates and officeholders on other levels of government.  You don’t get my vote if you thought Obama was a bad guy and Trump is wonderful….no way.  Actually, the 2018 election will be a referendum on Trump… local, state and federal.

The margin of victory for Democrats in 2018 is narrowed if candidates put a fire in the belly of infrequent voters.

OPEN 20/20

forestfloor

The old adage states that it is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.  After 600 plus Projectlogicga blog posts and after spending a year writing the Best Interests Initiative issues outline, it’s time to take it to the streets, dusty roads and piney woods.

Our Policy Education Network 20/20 or OPEN 20/20 seeks to create a network of 20 community trendsetters in 20 selected cities.  While traditional voter education and involvement methods will and should continue, we want to try a different approach.  At the end of the day, public policy on the local, state and federal levels hit our communities hardest and we need our seat at the table.

President Trump should meet the moderates.  For decades, the conservative movement has demonized all non-conservatives as far Left liberals.  America functions best when representatives of all groups have a seat at the policy table.

The motto on the seal of Georgia reads “Justice, Wisdom and Moderation.”  In Philippians 4:5, Paul wrote  “Let your moderation be known unto all men.  The Lord is at hand.”  I understand the passion and extreme energy of the young adults on the left and right; I was once them.

However, two things should be known about my “peeps.”  We stand on the shoulders of southern Blacks who simply wanted a fair opportunity in America.  Secondly, we grew up during the preppy, conservative Reagan and Cosby Show era.  I am trying to say that most Blacks who actually vote in the South are moderate to conservative and the best representation of our viewpoints would be Blue Dog Rep. Sanford D. Bishop of Georgia…the last of a dying breed.  We need to export Bishopism like we ship out peanuts and hip hop.

As a longtime member of the House Agriculture Committee and/or the House Appropriations Sub-Committee on Agriculture, SDB knows the importance of a balanced Farm Bill, which outlines U.S.D.A. programs.  President Trump’s budget takes to these programs with a chainsaw rather than a scalpel; he is doing what he said he would do.

U.S.D.A. programs impact every American because we all enjoy a safe and affordable food supply.  Food assistance programs provide temporary help to those between jobs for various reasons.  Yes, moderates agree with conservatives on the issue of able-bodied adults who want help because they are too cool to flip burgers or pick vegetables.  They should go to work but no reasonable person wants to see hungry kids.

So, some low income people are too busy to vote but these cuts would hit them hardest.  Team Hillary couldn’t get that point across?  We need regular folks talking with regular folks about the reality of the Trump deal.

The Blue Dog Democrats are the remnants of the southern conservative Dems after many took off for the Republican Party.  Well, the GOP finally has a president who will do whatever their base wants.  Of course, the few moderate Republicans can’t stomach Trump’s drama.  At the end of the day, we have loud people on both extremes but the moderate middle/center sways elections.   The moderate majority of the Democratic Party needs to stand up before Trump’s movement drives this nation over a cliff and before the Sander’s liberal wing take over.  Oldheads like me are concerned with Sander’s benefits first mentality but he knows now to check Wall Street.
